I am not all that impressed with the events here for the upcoming LA Beer Week. Compared to San Fran or Sun Diego or Portland, it's weak! Now I haven't been to any of the cities mentioned for any of the events yet. But just by looking at the event schedule it seems weak to me. I did attend a few of LA's events last year. And it was fun and had a great time. But the other cities events looks alot more promising than ours here in the City of Angels. Why dont they include more of Orange County or Riverside, etc? Is it because our beers here in the southland is not all that great compared to San Diego or San Fran? Maybe Orange County should have there own Beer Week. Last year I think we had a couple in the OC. Maybe a few more was added for this years event. Come on guys, is the beer here in the southland that bad? Or nobody's interested?

Portland beer week is nothing. I happened to be there for it. No one cared. Seriously. I went to one event (and it was awesome). There weren't even any more to go to for the 3 days I was there. when I mentione it was beer week at different places they all said "every week is beer week in Portland". Yawn.
It is an awesome city with great beer though. Just be nice if they either did something for beer week or scrapped it all together.

For LA Beer Week they just just offer daily shuttles to San Diego and be done with it.

I like Beer Belly's Craft for Crap idea. Bring in a BMC beer and get a craft beer for a penny.

    Wait...REALLY?!?!

You don't think there's anything good going on in the next 2+ weeks????

--They're opening a Stone Brew store on the first day!!! (That in itself is huge.)
--David Walker himself is bringing 5 rare Firestone sours to 5 different bars in one day (I can't even name 1 FW sour to begin with)
--Golden Road is hosting their 1st Anniversary Party
--Kern River is taking over taps at Far Bar
--Special Barrel Aged beers at The Victorian along with Barrel Aged spirits and specialty beer cocktails
--Russian River takeover at The Bottle Room
    --Fifty/Fifty night at Verdugo
--Lost Abbey/Port 20+ tap takeover at Surly Goat
    --4th Beer Float Showdown
    --The Union Station Closing Party

Those are just some of the highlights in my opinion. Virtually every night Stone, DFH, New Belgium, and FW are taking over taps of a bar somewhere. Also for the first time ever, there are shuttle buses for multiple brewery tours being offered (free in some cases, $15 in others).

LA is still a baby in terms of the beer scene compared to SF, SD, and Portland. I'd say we're doing pretty damn good for only our 4th year of having a beer week!

You know it's LA Beer week when you go to spot having an event, and you have to let the staff there is an event going down, in the spot they work.

There are a few things happening around town worth checking out for sure. But, in traditional LA fashion, it's so damn spread out it hard to do more than 1 event in a day, plus the events themselves may be just so-so at best. And don't forget Carmageddon is the last weekend of LA Beer Week. Good times.

Dont get me wrong guys. I think it's great but not as good as some other cities out there. We could spread the love out to OC/Riverside/etc. I've been to Beachwoods & the Far Bar(Kern River) and a few others events last year. But we could have more and better I think. Most of the events take place in the LA area. Yes, its the LA Beer week. But we should cover more Orange County and some of the other counties. You know alot of the places are downtown and the public transportation is nothing but SUCKS here. Spread the love of beer event into some of the other counties.

I don't see anything listed for Blue Palms, seems kinda weird. They must be doing sometime, right?

I know what you're saying and I think you have a point. But the only problem is that this IS LA Beer Week. And being that LA is so spread out, extending it into Riverside and Orange counties simultaneously would only put more strain on the specialties that breweries are providing. You want it to be better and more and less spread out over LA county, but you also want it to reach Riverside & Orange. That just can't possibly happen. That's like asking SF Beer week to include San Jose and Sacramento as well.

I think the key is finding a local place that is participating in its own way (I only live close to City Tavern in Culver City, so I'll be checking out their nightly barrel-aged pairings) and then selecting like one event a day on the weekend to hit up.

Sorry if I'm sounding defensive, but I just think this is the best Beer Week yet and am quite pleased that it IS so diversified across the county.

I think a large part of it is because the beer scene in LA/OC is so young. It's a bit unfair to compare LA Beer Week to beer weeks at much more craft beer established cities like SF or SD. Patience my friend. I have no doubt in a few years LA
Beer Week will be a destination for out of towners.

they posted a couple of things on their Facebook earlier. they're one of the places getting a special firestone sour on saturday, and they're doing another takeover or two, iirc.

Naja's is having a huge locals tap takeover. Definitely looking forward to that. I'm VERY curious about the KRBC tap takeover at Far Bar

My guess is that the KRBC event at Far Bar will be, dare I say, epic. Kyle of KRBC always brings his A game to the Far Bar events.
