How Have You Defiled a Great Beer Lately?

    I have been a huge IPA and hops fan for well over a decade and I never gave beer mixed drinks much thought until a date ordered a Steigl Radler this summer on a hot day. It was freaking delicious. After that I started experimenting with things like:

    -Ballast Point Sculpin Grapefruit and Grapefruit Soda
    -Ballast Point Dorado and Grapefruit Soda
    -FW Double Jack and Grapefruit Soda

    My latest drink that I mixed tonight on a hot, sticky Virginia night was equal parts Bear Republic Racer 5 and Izze Clementine Soda. It was my favorite yet. Stunningly refreshing with a great hop finish complimented by the sweet citrus juice.

    What has anyone else mixed that they really liked?

    And what are thoughts on how the mixers go with beer depending on if they are sweetened by fruit juice, sugar, corn syrup, or an artificial sweetener. The Izze Clementine is just sweetened with fruit juice and complements an IPA amazingly.

    I put some MDMA in a Stone IPA a few weeks ago. It gave the finish a nice anise flavor, it was great!

    I find myself often experimenting with Gose. Westbrook Gose mixed with clementine juice and a shot of Cointreau is my favorite so far.

    Not me personally, but one of my drinking buddies often mixes his stouts with Kraken rum. Hey whatever floats your boat...

    Lagunitas Imperial Stout with a little Jim Beam Maple and Crème de Cassis. Instant Bourbon Barrel Blackcurrant Maple Stout.

    BTW, mixed =/= defiled.

    Founders Breakfast Stout with some cream, just the way I like my coffee, albeit a bit clumpier.

    Sam Adam's nitro coffee stout poured over a couple of scoops of vanilla bean ice cream.

    Was hot out.

    I'm no Fred Eckhardt tho...

    Had the Melt My Brain from Short's Brewing, a golden ale brewed with coriander, juniper berries, lime, and tonic water added. Tasted like legit non-alcoholic margarita mix and could barely get it down. So I decided to throw a bottle in a blender with some ice, a shot of Patron, and half an ounce of some blueberry jasmine syrup and blended it up together. The result: an excellent Blueberry Margarita-style beer cocktail. In essence, I think that in this case some beers were made for beer cocktails. :grinning:

    I open a beer, and pour into the proper glassware, then drink it and enjoy :slight_smile:

    Im now doing this. I love kraken. It might make vanilla pop more. It might make it sickly sweet.

    The BCAA Pale Ot Rye + rum. It made the apple flavor more apparent than in the straight beer. (& I did try the straight beer at the same time, before adding the rum.)

    I occasionally put hot pepper sauce (datil is the usual) into stouts. S.Tier 2XPRESSO was my favorite for this. Have done it with FBS. :0

    A jigger of Stoli Chocolat Kokonut vodka topped with a can of Ten FIDY. Death by Coconut on steroids. :grimacing:

    Not lately, but I'm looking forward to Lakefront Imperial Pumpkin /Nitro Milk Stout blends again this fall.
