Well maybe not totally. Maybe just not as much?
I recently bought a case of AAL Genesee beer
at $14.99/case of 30 cans. Reason being we are
going to have a lot of expenses piling up soon. So
I needed to drink cheaper. Turns out I was really
enjoying a Genny or two before turning to a craft
or two. Maybe because of the VERY hot weather
AALs go down easy or maybe I'm reliving my 1st
beers when I started drinking. Maybe both? Not
sure but I am very much enjoying my sittings
    non the less.

Do you take breaks? Or slight ones?

Of course I do. A 12 pack of Hamm's was a nice division. And isn't it a bloody bout time we dropped the word "craft" and just call it beer, which it is.

    Diversion.

    NEVER! MUHAHAHAHAHAA!!

But seriously, most of the styles I've come to love are only classified as "Craft Beer" so for me it's not really an option.

I drink what I enjoy and for the most part that is craft beer because of the quality and flavors they offer. Is there anything wrong with drinking cheaper beer or mass produced beer, no. That is your choice and right, you should never feel obligated to only drink a certain way. I think the best part of being into craft is that you learn the diversity of beer. I know so many people who say "Why are you so into beer and all these different types, isn't it all the same?" That sums up why I love craft, that we are educated on the better things regarding beer. So many people think beer is beer its all the same and the best bet is score it cheap cheap cheap. So as far as taking a break, I just never feel I am doing anything that needs a break, I love what I drink and would not want to leave that for the sake of just doing so. There is so much good beer out there and a lot of it is pretty well priced that anymore I can get a 12 pack of good local beer about 2 bucks more than the national guys.
Cheers and enjoy the beer, a hobby should never feel like a job....

Never, as soon as I drink non-craft beer I literally get a headache hours later. NEVER had a hang over with CRAFT.

If in a budget here in Socal, Modern Times and Pizza Port cans are a go.

Certainly, but it's not taking a break because I never stopped drinking whatever the hell I liked. It so happens I like Miller High Life and Yuengling Traditional Lager.

Never got the money thing personally.

I see more six packs of Bud/Light and Lite being sold than 30 packs.. The price on said six pack, $6.99-$7.99. On the shelf next to those is usually a local craft or regional craft option maybe $0.50-$1.50 more.

Now the slippery slope is when you throw in ABV. A lot of macro drinkers don't like to admit that they just want a solid sustained buzz. Quite a few craft offerings can actually get you drunk err I mean buzzed cheaper.
    Just sayin'.

Further down the line is your ICE and heavy malt liquors, as well as your cheap spirits, But on a beer surface, I would never downgrade with the cost in mind. There are so many sales and "old" seasonals that aren't really even expired that go for cheap, that you can pretty much make it work.

On the other hand, as far as cost and consumption goes, bomber buys have decreased 5x for me. So you can weigh out all those options really. Even buying pints at a restaurant can be seen as too costly. Weigh all those options before taking that "break" imho.

I enjoy some macro beers from time to time. I don't hate them I just don't prefer them.

When I am a budget I turn to Sierra Nevada. $10.99 for a 12er of torpedo, uh yes!

It sounds rather snobbish to say "Never," but be that as it may:
I appreciate the brewer's craft in the same way I appreciate the vintner's craft and the chef's craft. (Oh, and let's not forget the distiller's craft.) I don't drink beer just to be drinking beer. I drink it because I enjoy the flavors and aromas and the interplay between the malts, hops, and other ingredients. I rarely drink macro lagers because they simply don't embody any of the characteristics that I look for in a beer.

I always mix in AALs, it's hot and humid, sometimes they're just right.

When I'm in that mood I usually buy a Shiner Family Reunion 6 or 12 pack. That's as close as I get to AAL anymore.

I don't consider buying a really good beer that I like that is also very cheap and fills my refrigerator a break from craft. I actually like genesee a lot and will buy the cream ale and the bock. Because I have so much beer this way I actually have more money to spend on beer in the end.

Is occasionally going back to macro called a "relapse"? If so, many do that now and then, if only to be sociable when offered macro.

If Leiny shandys are not considered craft, then I break from craft during lawn mowing. I also willfully break from craft when I go to captain's choice golf tournaments or the severely rednecky county gatherings that come up every now and then.

While I may enjoy craft far, far more as a "sit down and enjoy" option, I will always maintain that there is a time and place for downing macros. Though the opportunities have faded as a I get older, the reality is still there. Nothing bad or unacceptable about drinking a macro. And if it's an economical decision, then ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Absolutely. Like others I enjoy High Life and Yuengling, but in reality i'll drink any of them. I've yet to come across more than 2 beers in my lifetime that I actually don't like and "drain pour", like so many people do on this forum.

OTOH, I'm taking a break from AALs. My break started around 2005 and I expect it to last another 20 years or so.
