Thanks Dave for the warm welcome and opening. I have to say I'm new to beer advocacy (well . . fairly new. . .about five years new) and this is the first thread I've every replied to. I just love the mood of it. I don't feel intimidated, and I am learning so much.

OK. Onward: I actually tried two new beers today, but I'm only going to write about one here. The most significant one of the day was the MAPLE BREAKFAST STOUT by 14th Star Brewing Company in Vermont. Why was it the most significant beer of the day? Because I actually had it for breakfast, which made me feel a little dangerous . . .while sipping it on my back patio, reading my book.

The front-and-center aroma to me was bread, with a subtle whiff of maple syrup. The taste was bitter, with a slight maple syrupy taste. I was glad not to have a thick coating on the tongue after drinking it, and a warm feeling in my belly. It poured into a Pilsner glass with a finger sized head. There were hardly any lacings down the glass as I finished it up.

I planned on providing pictures, however, can't quite figure out how to do it yet. :/

    Happy Imbibing!

Have not seen the blonde around here, but did get the New World Cuvee (I think that's it, the white label I think you recently had) recently, but haven't popped it open.

Welcome New Beer Sunday. I started later than planned, because I've been looking for my GPS. How ironic: something that finds places is something I can't find. I'm going to need it the next couple of days on my trip to Minot for my cousin's funeral.

Oh, well, I'll find it - I hope - on to the beer.

This was picked up by a friend a month ago on his vacation to the UP. It's an ok beer, some bitterness to it. A faint hint of sweetness. Not bad.

    Now where's the damn GPS?

I'm sure some do. The biggest dislike for me was the odd sulphuric smell. Other than that, it was a serviceable fruited sour with a pleasant peach flavor.

    Greetings All:

A pair of new ones for me, both from Full Sail, in honor of week 600. My how the time flies. I think I got into this at about week 48.

    Blood Orange Wheat Ale:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5316/223110/?ba=RJLarse#review

A sweet fruity brew, the color of pineapple juice. Nothing really bloody or orange about it.

    Hop Pursuit IPA:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5316/224104/?ba=RJLarse#review

A tasty and clean IPA. Better than the flagship IPA from Full Sail by far.

I've been vacationing in North Idaho the last week, tomorrow it's one day in the office, with a whip and a chair to tame my in-box, then off to the SEA for the rest of the week.

    Happy Trails!

Sounds intriguing. I could see where a little spice from the mustard could play well with some fruity strawberry. Thanks for sharing THAT beer.

Good evening, BAs! The on-call weekend is over, so now it's time for New Oktoberfest Beer Sunday while I decompress with the windows open and luxuriate in this cool, comfortable Iowa weather. Kudos to @cavedave for another great opening to the NBS festivities. My new beer for today is Hofbräu Oktoberfest from Hofbräu München. First one from this brewery, and it's pretty tasty. I'm always amazed at what some of these brewers can accomplish using the most basic of ingredients. This one has a lot of complexity that seems to peak at cellar temperature. There is some sweetness and a little light caramel at first, then spicy bitterness and a hint of tart apple (!) that lingers on the finish. What would make this better? Drinking it in Munich during Oktoberfest.

I found my GPS. It was in my car under the driver's seat. Feels good to have it in my bag, so I'm really ready to go, after a short stint at work tomorrow.

This deserves a beer. The problem is that most of my beers that are new are higher octane. Not good when I have a 7 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow. So this seemed in order.

Not the best beer in the world. Not very flavorful, but for a lighter beer, not bad. Good for a closer. Tomorrow I'll be drinking North Dakota beers. Laughing Sun and Souris River Brewing here I come. Got to have some fun before we bury my cousin.

Hey NBS friends. I just flew from Little Rock to DC through Dallas. The flight from Dallas to DC was long. We sat on the tarmac for a long time thanks to a traffic jam created by thunderstorms. Now I'm enjoying an Evolution 3 and a reuben. I'm not going to do a full review of this beer, as the scenario isn't ideal. I love Evolution 6 DIPA, but this is my first time with 3. Or might be the situation, but this is hitting the spot perfectly. Great balance between citrus and pine. Almost no bitterness or dryness. Nice lacing on the glass. At $7 it's a little steep, but I'll probably have another. Just perfect after a long day of flying. Before are a couple pictures out the airplane window.

I have been enjoying Deschutes "birthday beer" since XX, every March 3rd (my birthday) alone on my patio over a few hours each year (honestly, the only beer I have ever been stingy about sharing :slight_frown:). They have always blown me away with their wax capped beers, and this one continues to transcend. Can't wait for 6 months and 14 days to pass . Cheers!

Hey all! Looks like another great day of reviews in here. I've been out and about for most of the day but looking forward to reading through all your thoughts on here. Today I stopped in at Maui Brewing to see if they had anything new and was pleased to see a new session IPA on the tap list.
Slippah Sipa Session IPA clocking in at 4.8% abv

I actually had to add this thing on here so I have the honor of doing the first review also! Here's my thoughts...

    4.24/5 rDev n/a
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Pours straw colored with a frothy head that disappears very quickly and leaves no lacing to speak of. There's some murky haziness that clouds it up. Smell is very citrus forward with some dank pine in the background. Taste is nice and bitter but the citrus you pick up on the nose is much more muted in the taste. There's some subtle orange peel, grassy lemon, floral notes, and more pine at the end. It has a really nice feel for a session beer. It is 4.8% alcohol so that seems to be on the higher side for a session beer but that being said it is full bodied and isn't too thin whatsoever. Overall this is really solid session beer and a great option if you like bitter and citrusy beers.

Cheers everyone and I'll see you all next weekend!

What a lead post from our estermed @cavedave . Benn thinking about it off and on during the day. Hers is my LNNBS ramble...haul out the tldr...

Advocacy...hmmm... Could be different things at different times, but for me the over riding principle is respect. For beer in general, the work our brewers do to bring us our favorite libations, and respect for each other. It doesnt matter what one drinks and there should be no judgements in that regard. Willingness to explore and willingness to learn with an open mind, then sharing what one learns without pretense. There has been some angst in some threads lately. But cooler heads usually prevail, which I cant say is true on other forums I have haunted. This is a great place to be, and a great place to learn. I like to think I have a lot of virtual friends here. Beer...the history, the new age, the rebirth and reinterpretation of old styles. Refinement, keeping things the same, turning things upside down. It us all good. Brewers taking chances and pushing the boundaries of styles...fantastic...blur those lines! Yet homage is paid to the classics. It all becomes fodder for our taste buds and seeds for conversation. What brings it all together is we, the people.

Beer is a bridge for me. I am fascinated by production, equipment, processing. It is pretty strongly related to my day job, but it can take my curiosity in far different directions. I can draw parallels, but then I can play "what if", applying things I know in a different light. I can follow my inquistive nature as far as I want to follow and it seems I rarely walk the same road. I have been fortunate enough to help out the good folks at Harpoon on a few occasions, drawing from my skillset to give them some guidance. They helped my work team understand carbonation, taking us deep into the brewery and giving of their time. Mutually beneficual, mutual learning. If the big business buzzword is collaboration, this is how it works. Anyhow, hooray beer!

Pretty nice day here in the kingdom, still a little too humid but nothing oppressive. We really need a good, soaking rain. We arent able to keep up with the watering for the garden. Seems the tomatoes could yse twice a day, not evety other. Hot peppers are happy though. While there is no official water ban in town, we do try to be responsible. Even with our gardenng technique that uses far less water we alternate days. If it costs us a little in the harvest, so be it.

Waiting on our countertops. Due in Wednesday, so Tuesday night might be interesting removing the old and disconnecting the sink, Will post pictures one of these days!

Dinner was cod and grilled eggplant from the garden, fresh tomatoes, some pasta salad concoction. Well, the cod was from the store... We made kale chips from a few plants that are still hanging in, but probably the last go. My riding mower is down, so followed the shade around the yard with the push mower. I guess that resembles exercise? Watching classic Bond...The Living Daylights. I thought Timothy Dalton was a decent bond, a little edgier than Moore and Connery, maybe not quite as suave. Like these films as they evolved with the times. Pierce was good, and Daniel Craig seemed to bring out a much colder side of the hero. Havent seen the latest incarnation.

So what graces the glass? Tonight it is Allagash Little Brett.

Apoearance: It pours a very clear, I would say almost a pilsner yellow. Explosive, foamy head of white bubbles that falls to rafts. It looks decent enough, 3.75

Smell: Sweet pineapple with citrus in the background. My initial thought was oh nomore grapefruit, but it seems more lemony. There is bread here, and an ever so faint funk. Subtle, I like the sweetness, but hope the beer is not too sweet. 4.0

Taste: Oh my...not what I expected. The pineapplle says hello, followed rather quickly by a substantial bitterness. Not overwhelming, but assertive enough. The brett flavor peeks through, and a bit of bread crust. There is a mild undercurrent of sweetness. Some lemon dances through, and I find a nice peppery note on the back of the taste. Thinking 4.5... Ah...some apple-like taste is showing up in the aftertaste. Nice jimmies on the sundae.

Feel: Lively enough carbonation. Light on the tongue and light bodied. A bit of a tingle, moderately dry. 3.75

Overall: I really dig the flavor, it is a nice beer to drink, and the flavor unravels itself pretty nicely. Not their most complex beer, but very tasty. I feel this coming in around the 4.0 mark.

    Cheers, friends!
