I know they are both barleywines aged in brandy barrels (one in cognac, the other apple brandy) so I was curious if anyone who's had both could chime in and compare the two. I'm interested in trading for both, but I'd love to hear people's input before I decide which one to push harder to seek out.

The base beer is Church on a Hill. It's a collaboration with Swamp Head. It isn't barrel aged. Then CCB released a Cognac barrel version called Cognac Barrel Aged Church on a Hill. Then they released Leon which is Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Church on a Hill.

Ah okay, so they both use Church on a Hill as the base beer? I actually was a big fan of that beer, and didn't realize that Leon also used it, so that's exciting news. Have you had them?

So it's just different barrel treatments of Church on a Hill? Must be a scam.

I haven't trie them yet. Thanks to an awesome BA I have a bottle of both of the BA versions. Waiting until a tasting to drink them.

Although I miss seeing your Army of Darkness avatar that, my friend, was frickin' hilarious.

I never said I was consistent in my opinions . Also, when I posted this thread I had no idea they were the same base beer.

I prefer Leon. It is much more sweet and seems to be slightly thicker. The cognac was a little more barrel forward. I would say get them both and drink them together, but if you only could get one go for Leon. I would guess Leon will be a little easier to get since it was released recently.

The Cognac Church on a Hill was excellent so I'm really looking forward to Leon...
