@Eziel had to send the swag I'd forgotten in the first box, and figured you could use a few more brews. Sadly I didn't have more treehouse to send with the glass. @jonbonfondle enjoy, I think I hit a few wants in there.
Couldn't resist opening one of these for long. Based on appearance alone it could honestly be Trillium or Treehouse. First sip and it's definitely Trillium, maybe lower ABV APA. Really creamy mouthfeel as well. I'm thinking one of the small bird beers, maybe Tiny Chicken? Got the brewery right at least, been a while since I've had the original Fort Point. So delicious, you guys are really spoiled over there with these Trillium cans! Thanks again'
Probably shaved a good 5 years off my liver this weekend but we survived. Hopjam was a bit of a letdown but the rest of the trip was great and it's always a pleasure to run in to @RuckIt. Overcrowded, understaffed and a bunch of shelf turds with a couple great beers here and there that most people never even got to try. All said and done we racked up just shy of 500 miles for the trip making @Steban closest for the LIF. Hit me with your info and I'll have it out to you this week
Just a reminder, please send me a message on who you thought had the best box this round. I have gotten a few votes in so far. I won't be on the computer much this week so if you have any questions, send them to @Yourahoser and he will help. some good choices so far for best box!
Hi Newbies, I got a little behind this weekend so I'm not going to send out the #CIF until next Monday. That will give a couple more people a chance to sign up as well. Heading to Columbus tomorrow and hope to pick up some goodies for the box there. I did a little fun research looking back through the sign up lists: I show 6 people have participated in all 4 Rounds - @Yourahoser @jschott75 @Steban @Elkevjoe @Eziel and @Greeny87 with Greeny87 being the only one in that group to NOT have his name on the cushions yet. Of the people who have participated in 3 Rounds, I am showing @Avelasquez80 @Bristopher89 @Doogflaggat @JoeyIce3 and @MTKATL as the folks who have NOT written their name on the cushions. There are a few people NOT on the cushions who participated in 2 rounds with some notables being @LehighAce06 @andreizm @SRBush1974 @VetsPackage and @JPond4 Just calling some attention to that! Signups for the #CIF are still OPEN and will remain so until this coming Friday at 6pm.
Blind taste time! Immediately after opening I catch a whiff of rum? Pours dark and thin, taste is booze and vanilla, thin body isn't really stout like. As it warms, coffee starts to appear. Even after I tore the wrapping off I swear it tasted like rum. A lot going on in this one, apparently it has brown sugar added as well. Either way, it was a really delicious brew. Thanks @beluga92 !
Lifs everywhere. Somebody nailed my baby birth date and was off by one ounce. I've been doing some stalking and will get that box out in a week or two.
LIF box is going out tomorrow AM, along with 2 ninja boxes in the evening (too heavy to carry it all on my walk into work). Should reach everyone by Thursday/Friday. @jonbonfondle glad you liked it, that's last years batch so the coffee has probably faded, might be why you're picking up more barrel flavors. I've actually only had the vanilla barrel-aged framinghammer before and it was awesome so I figured this would be as well.
Great 1 year summary. I pulled 4-round info as well since it just seemed fun to recap the year. Seeing @Avelasquez80 and @Doogflaggat as also having done all 4 rounds, potentially bringing our All Star team to eight. Thanks to y'all '4 rounders' for a great continuity. You da real MVP! Overall, I got 52 individuals who have shipped 107 total boxes over 4 rounds. This of course excludes CIFs, LIFs, GIFs, ninjas and revenge boxes. With 4 BIF rounds at the conservative estimate of 144oz per box we're looking at 15,400oz of great beer moved across state lines. Bring the average box to 200oz and we're at 21,400oz! 21 states have been represented, 11 of them by multiple people. VT and OR are noticeably absent; perhaps they want to keep their brews to themselves. Flakiest state: CA. Most senders have come from CA (nine), but majority of them have dropped after one or at most two rounds. This state lacks a single 3-rounder; weak. Heavy shipping state: PA. Six senders are responsible for most overall boxes per state of 14, beating out CA due to having more repetitive participants. Honorable mention goes to TX: 13 boxes by just 4 people. Greatest participant state: OH. While only having two senders, both @Elkevjoe and @Eziel have been at it since the beginning, getting the best box/people ratio. You guys might not trust your Ohio friends enough to bring them into the group fold (or they are all in SWTFYW and Locals already), but you sure keep busy in Newbies. FL would be tied for this award but we had one 4-rounder move out, and a round 4 newbie coming in, screwing up the ratios. Honorable mention yet again goes to TX (see paragraph above), where we have one 4-rounder and three 3-rounders. Thx for @LehighAce06 and @Yourahoser for running 2 rounds each and @Elkevjoe for general oversight of rules and representation of group spirit. Good times!
Go back in your hole Dru Awesome research!!! So fun to see where this has went. I've had a couple New Newbies reach out with interest for Round 5 so the world keeps spinning. Last one was @Graham19840
Been lurking again the last few days. Things here are a bit crazy. I've been wanting to do the cushions, but trying to conserve a few bucks to keep doing BIF's. My wife and I found out were expecting twins come Feb, so it's been a bit crazy here past couple weeks / months.
Great summaries! Think the only recap left is how many babies the Newbie BIF created. Congrats @Greeny87 !
