Carton Brewing (August 2016)

Pretty cool article. Love to see small breweries like this making great brews. Sounds like they hit NJ at the right time. Hopefully my taste buds swim in some in 2 weeks. Only in state for 24 hours so we'll see.

 

Finally got a chance to open up a can of Rub. What a tremendous beer. A little disappointed that I only got 2 four packs. I am going to head down this weekend to pick up some more.

 

It definitely has a lot going on. I love it too.

 

The first time I had Rub, I thought it was pretty decent (perhaps maybe a little too much garlic); the second time was after an afternoon of drinking some lighter beers followed by burgers and BBQ off the grill. The second time was the time I "got it". The beer made sense to me right then. Really interesting beer. I'm happy with just the four pack I bought. I couldn't see me drinking it all the time; for me, it fits a very specific occasion like the one I mentioned (post-day drinking, post-BBQ, warm, summer Sunday evening). Cool beer nonetheless.

 

I'm so glad other people are having this rich, emotional journey with Rub, like I did.

It really is a great beer.

 

Canyon is in the Randall through Boiled and freeze dried grasshoppers.

I wish I could. I already have plans to attend someone's birthday in Red Bank or else, I'd be all in.

If you are going to be in Point Pleasant you might as well gonthr source. While you are there make sure you pick up some Rub and Sakura. The hoppy beers get most of the attention but those beers are great.

 

Finally tried Rub tonight (on tap). Excellent beer! Spices were a lot more subtle than I was expecting with everything in it. They all blended well together and was very drinkable. Would love to try cooking with this one. Would probably be killer with some pork!

Anyone go yesterday that knows if there is still BOAT and Motueka left? Gonna swing by today after work.

 

When I first saw the post, I thought it was the chocolate mint cookies called Grasshoppers - I didn't realize it was actual grasshoppers until I got there.

It was pretty much what you'd expect - super earthy with a slight metallic flavor.

 

I was there until about 6ish, and I imagine there will still be at least a little Motueka, Sakura and Rub at open today. I also assume there will be plenty of Boat and Dub to make the weekend as there were palettes upon palettes of cans downstairs as I walked out.
