Rare Oak Pale Ale by Innis & Gunn (Edinburgh,Scotland)

Artwork: All Innis&Gunn labels look alike and it's sometimes hard to tell what beer you're looking at. I grabbed this one not realizing it was NOT their "Original" ale (which I've had before). It was a great surprise to realize that I was holding a beer I hadn't sampled before.
Appearance: Dark amber, forming a very small head and with little visible carbonation.
Nose: No oakiness on the nose. Whiffs of candy, malts and some faint hops.
Taste: Again, very little oak which came as a surprise. Fairly sweet. Notes of caramel, candy, bubblegum.
Mouthfeel: Very smooth carbonation. Medium body.
Overall: I quite liked this one. The lack of oak aromas/flavors were perplexing but given that I'm not a huge fan of theirs, it was a plus. A rather sweet-smelling and -tasting beer that may not satisfy those who prefer hoppy Pale Ales.

You might just be having an off day nose- or mouth-wise; or your definition of "outstanding beer" has changed. At least that's what I tell myself when that happens to me and I worry I'm becoming a douche:flushed:.

Or it got skunked like @FatBoyGotSwagger said. lol

Sometimes I think it may be easier to come to terms with being a douche than dealing with a palate shift.:grimacing:

It's grilling time at Casa de Threat, and that means it's time to crack open another one! This is one I've had in the fridge for a couple months (quelle horror!) : Freedom of 78, IPA with Pink Guava. Collaboration between Short's Brewing and Half Acre out of Chicago.

Glad I took everyone's advice on this one. They truly may have created the perfect hoppy session ale with this beer.[IMG]
