Kasteel Rouge by Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck (Izegem, Belgium)

Artwork: Very nice classic Kasteel design. This is the type of classy Belgian label that I can't get enough of.
Appearance: Deep ruby red with pink head. Not much retention or lacing but that could be because of my relatively slow pour (the brewery's recommendation is for a vigorous pour). Pretty clear with no traces of yeast or other floaties.
Nose: Lots of sweet cherries. Sugar and cherry juice.
Taste: More cherries upfront, some cinnamon warmth, and spices. A fairly bitter quinine-like aftertaste.
    Mouthfeel: Medium body. Light carbonation.
Overall: Not as complex as I was expecting but definitely a nice enough Kriek. This was my first beer from the Kasteel series and I'd love to try their Donker (which Rouge is based on) to see how it tastes without the added cherries.

Good to have drinking partners this early morning. Been up since three with fussy newborn. Beers. Cheers.

I lean on this video a lot with coffee beers, but the song checks a bunch of my boxes, so it's guilt-free.

Mrs and Jr like to sleep in on the weekends since there's no school, but the three year old will still wake up before the dang sun. Oh well. More beer time for me.[IMG]
Worked the ice cream social at Jr's school last night, and this song was playing in my brain the entire time.

    Happy Saturday, advocates!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday!

Amazing IPA as usual, glad the 6 packs are available now. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, peach, citrus rind, and pine; with some light honey/bready malt balance. Very smooth finish with moderate hop stickiness and slight malt creaminess in the mouthfeel; with a great increasingly dry resinous finish. I know a lot of people think the Green Flash brewed Alpine beers are not as good, I feel this one is spot on to how I remember the real Alpine one I had a few years ago,
    [IMG]

Really nice! Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, and light smoke/charred malts; with moderate herbal/light peppery hops. Moderate roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness; medium-plus bodied with balanced creaminess and sticky/chalky roast in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing dryness from roast/hops; zero astringency. More of an American stout, than the standard English Oatmeal stout(which is what I initially expected), but toning down on the hops a bit after 2-3 months since I reviewed it. Some subtle dark fruit notes are poking out now too. Would buy again.

Awesome coffee IPA. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with balanced medium roast coffee, cocoa, vanilla; caramel, toasted bread malt; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel and light roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced sticky/resins and creaminess in the mouthfeel; with a touch of chalkiness from cocoa/coffee flavors. Light-moderate increasing dryness; with zero astringency. Highly drinkable and minimal warming ABV. Pretty much perfectly balanced between cocoa/coffee and citrus/pine hop flavors. I've been drinking a lot of Short's Snake Juice earlier this year, which is similar to this(but more tropical); this is a bit more malty, and roasty/vanilla tasting from the cocoa. Will keep buying singles for as long as I can.

This is tasting insane! Huge flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, molasses, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, coconut, light licorice/raisin, and light smoke/char. Balanced bittersweet roast/char finish with some spicy bourbon/oak against sweetness; light-medium carbonation and full bodied creamy/silky rich mouthfeel. Very smooth sipping with lightly warming alcohol. Really glad I decided to revisit this earlier in the year. My original review opinion in 2013 was less than the base beer; but now I feel it blows the base beer out of the water. Literally my go-to barrel aged RIS now, totally worth the price because it sits on the shelf all over the place almost all year; and is basically the same price as Bourbon County. Will be grabbing it again real soon.

    Cheers

Anzalone Special Beer by Anzalone (brewed at Lancaster Brewing Company in Lancaster, PA)

Artwork: Not a label that will win any awards, that's for sure. It looks like it was made in Microsoft Paint by a person that just found out about the existence of computers. A rather boring background featuring the heavily pixelated image of the founder (wearing a hat) and the company's logo (a dog's head inside a wreath) barely visible near the bottom.

Appearance: Amber, with a nice head that stays put for a couple of minutes.

Nose: Very malty. Some smokiness and mild acidity.

Taste: Very flavorful. Lots of malts, a bit nutty, and with a sweet/sour aftertaste. A fairly unique flavor profile.

Mouthfeel: Relatively viscous for a lager. Not too carbonated.

Overall: A fairly interesting beer. Certainly more flavorful that most lagers but also much maltier than most. This is the only beer that the company makes. It's brewed on their behalf by Lancaster Brewing, based on a family recipe. It is only distributed in Eastern Pennsylvania, excluding Philadelphia proper. I found it in a shop in King of Prussia, PA. I had to add it to BeerAdvocate's database as it was not featured.

    Morning BA's
Today I'm gonna give you a run down of the interesting night leading up to this fantastic beer I'm drinking at 7:51 am this morning!

So I get a call from a friend last night asking if I want to go for a drive, the 2 of us have done long drives for years just to get away. Needless to say this one brought us to New Brunswick (I live in Montreal) This last time I had gone this far east was the week I found craft beer out in Halifax. and as random as it is I always get a picture of this Town name when passing XD
    [IMG]
Anyways So after 10 hours of driving and phototaking I dropped her off at home ( she starts work at 10 am XD) and got home to look in the fridge! There was this beautiful Beaus Batch 5000 farmhouse ale peeking out at me! this is a very funky yet tropical farmhouse with some pinot noir barrel flavors in it! what a beer!
Sorry for the reading but it was an eventful night!

    Morning BA's, and Happy Saturday...yea!

Hard to imagine this is the last weekend of August already....yesterday was a perfect summer's day here; went for a nice bit of catamaran sailing in my Hobie Cat, my friend Matt met me out on the water later....drank some beers, went for a swim and even saw a seaplane taking off and landing on my lake a few times.....my lake here is one of only a few "designated" seaplane landing sites in this area....pretty cool!

    In the meantime.....breakfast!

I normally don't grab multiple twelve packs of anything these days since there's so much great beer out there, but this was on sale at the grocery store, and it really is a damn good beer.

Been a fan of these guys since their first album. Going to have to listen to it on my beer store run today.

    New Beer Sunday is coming!

    [IMG] [IMG]

Saranac Kellerbier. Pleasantly pale. Spicy with peppery hop. Head falls soapy and attractively. Soft sweet herbal and light lemon. Lightly hazy. . Earthy floral takes the palate happily with a soft herbal sweetness. Plenty of malt and bready but not too toasty. Bubbles show you a bit of golden color on the palate but it escapes and leaves spicy earth behind with a sticky bitterness. These are noble hops brought to a sensational strength in the lager. The lager is an extreme beer.

Was reading yesterday's thread and the first one of these went down quickly, so I had to open a second. @joe1510 and @Prager62, I can't believe I turned the Cubs game off when they were down 4-2. I should know better with this team, right?

Happy Saturday ba. After a long and tough week I'm up and at it early today. Looking forward to a long weekend of not giving a shit. A 9% coffee ipa should help me achieve that goal,
