You don't need to look. The answer is "no".

Hoppin Frog has some pretty solid Bomber offerings, IMO. Allegedly the brewery charges pretty high prices though. They should have them in the bottle shops in the area.

Didn't even have to get 3 posts in, to find this response. :stuck_out_tongue:

I haven't had any of their stuff (partially because I hate how their bottles look. I know that's a stupid reason), but that seems to be a widely-held feeling.

It's a fun place to go for lunch, but their bottles are expensive for sure. I feel like distribution prices are cheaper which is bizarre.

Price and gross marketing have conspired for me to never try a bottle yet.

Not really a stupid reason in the crowded marketplace. If they can't take the time to design an attractive bottle I'm not sure I can take the time to buy a bottle.

This would take time and be directed towards the consumer. It is pretty obvious by their history that the only part of the consumer Fred cares about is their wallet.

If you want to try their stuff look for the dusty bottles in your local grocery store.

I don't have a real problem with this typically. But there are people on here with Hoof Hearted avatars not buying Hoppin Frog because of the labels. For those guys I'm sure there's another, real reason they aren't buying HF.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but to reduce clutter, what's everyone's opinion on the tasting room? All personal opinions aside, how's the space, list, pricing, etc.? Want to make a trip up there sometime, but not for a couple taps of Turbo Shandy.

    Hiiiiiiii.

I won't hijack this thread by talking about HH's labels. That being said, HF labels and their shitty branding has been well covered in the forums before. I personally have not had a negative experience at their taproom (like many others), nor am I adverse to their pricing (Jackie O's has a similar $/mL pricing... Someone else did the math). I sure as hell have spent more on beer.

I literally have not tried HF due to the labels. I cannot differentiate between the different beers because of the branding (Boris vs Doris vs other variants). All look the same to me on the shelf, with the exception of the Turbo Shandy. In the future, I can guarantee I'll try their beer and figure out which is which... I might just need to do it in response to this constant discussion and bickering over a local brewery.

Another brewery I haven't tried due to branding --Platform (every can looks the same to me). I'm sure I'll get around to it, but I have other beers on the list for now.

If you can read im sure you'll have no problem differentiating the Boris variants

Seriously though, do beer drinkers really care what a label looks like? I immediately pour into a glass anyways so what's the issue

When there's hundreds of bottles staring at you, why pick the ugly one?

How about the nooner and pallet series, terrible labels but it's what's inside that counts.

Not familiar with either. I'd also try any bottle, ugly or not, if I had a recommendation from someone I trusted. I've never heard any of my beer buddies say they've enjoyed a Hoppin' Frog.

I did the 2 hour drive up there a few months ago because they had Rum BORIS and I couldn't find bottles in my area. Wasted trip. I was glad that I tried first before paying for bottles because it was a huge disappointment. Besides that one there was nothing special on tap that I couldn't get anywhere in Columbus. Luckily, I went to R. Shea right after and almost drank the whole keg of The Islander which was great.

Their branding is roughly the same as Fat Heads - just a variation on a theme. If you follow the lists and ratings on this site, you're being hypocritical if you still avoid their beer for such a petty reason. I get that good branding makes a big difference, but it can also serve as a crutch too. Not the be all end all for any brand I would hope.

The beer isn't priced worse than many others, many of those who happen to make beer no better than HF imo. Their stouts are top notch, and BORIS is world class every day of the week.

I found Rum BORIS great, but people in general seem to dislike rum, I think as it is typically less in your face than bourbon.

Fwiw I stood in line for 3 hrs at the fabled Pappy release and still enjoy their beer. The grudge holding is sad to me... I don't see the same fervor when people pay for bad beer, which imo trumps all else.

100's of options + 0 recommendations + hideous artwork = ain't buyin'. Petty or not, it's not like I'm missing out on some religious experience.
