They sent you an invite with crumbs and what looks like a spec of blood or chocolate on it?

Rather than pure $ what about either # of bottles (it's called hoarder, not spender), or perhaps buying the broadest variety of releases (collect 'em all)? (rhetorical of course since no one knows)

History doesn't support that. I'm too busy at work, but later tonight i'll drill into the '15 thread and link for you where people were getting hammered after politely asking the same question. And in that thread I politely provided links to the renewal period in the '14 thread where... wait for it... people were getting hammered for politely asking the question and sharing their own experience.

Since The Bruery refuses to share any metrics for consideration, it doesn't feel like a misuse of the community to divert the conversation to sharing experiences for a few days while people are waiting to see if they got an invite... but for whatever reason its a bloodbath every year. I suggest people who can't handle a page or two of HS requirement speculation to divert their traffic to the beertalk forum during this time of year where they are free to engage in much more meaningful threads like "Ever have a $20+ bottle that IS worth the price?" or "Poll: Do you like sours?"

I think it's a hint for next years a BT variant. Maybe graham cracker and peanut butter cup....?

Well, back to the topic at hand.

With details stated to be shared by 9/1, I would assume that tomorrow is the day that we learn what is in store for the 2017 Hoarders Society. Unless they mean shared on.

Anyone rethinking their RS membership based on the number of bottles that have been released publicly? Seems like almost every sour has seen distro or release in the tasting room.

    In my case, absolutely not.

Whether or not The Bruery releases their beer publicly is largely irrelevant to me. In fact, I often benefit from public releases, by being able to buy more of a beer I like or a beer I held back on in an allocation, only to later try it, and realize I want bottles.

Full disclosure: I am not a trader, the beer I buy from The Bruery, I drink.

I'm in RS, for guaranteed bottles ( amongst other benefits ), not exclusive bottles. As long as I get my fill, I have no objection to others getting theirs. Nor do I mind The Bruery profiting by selling bottles that the societies didn't buy.

Of course, I also realize there are some beers that the societies will buy up,. And I'll still get my fill (HS beers excluded in my case  )

With all the memberships available out there nowadays I find that the exclusives become more important. I could spend RS membership money on another membership and still get the majority of the beer from both.

Just a thought though. I'll likely either keep the membership or split it with a friend.

i split this year, and going from RS to PS. almost all of the beers ive wanted have hit second chance window with no limit and/or public release and/or distro. hell, melange 15 even just hit distro.

not to mention if im not in RS next year, any beer im looking for i can easily just trade for or hit up one of my friends that has a membership and just get in on their second chance or initial allocation.

Anyone local wanting to split RS, shoot me a line. Maybe it'll keep you hanging on for next year :grinning:

With two friends in RS who never max and would probably let me buy the few things I really wanted, I'm def considering dropping. I'm overextended w/ clubs as it is. My local bottle shop probably misses me.

On the other hand I'm also considering stepping to hoarder if I make it... but that seems unlikely since no invite arrived.

Am I the only one who sees value in the 15% discount relieved on all purchases, and on-site taproom purchases (growler fills, glasses and tasters)? That for me makes it a much better deal than Distro will get you (including TJ prices but not Costco if it happens to go there).

No, that makes sense for OCjeff... but for SRcoldstorage who cant pop into the taproom or make the anni party etc, that's a nonstarter... as i'm sure it is for other reserve members flung across the map.

I would have to agree that if the beers you seek hit distribution and you are having them shipped to you then it washes out all of the savings savings (except for maybe the $40 variety).

I would take a wild guess that maybe 20% hit distribution though, so that would mean the other 80% can only be had through some sort of membership or in person visit - including their big stouts (which are my favorites).

I've been an RS member since the first year. Got invited to HS for its first year (I think because I was the only person who maxed out on Gunga Galunga) but declined. Anyway, this could be the year I finally let it go. I used to trade Bruery for Cantillon with a friend in Belgium, but the L.A. Postmaster has kinda ruined that. I've got enough Bruery bottles to last for at least a few years. Like Xul said, they're not good to bring to tastings and they're hard to drink alone. Plus I'm in the Modern Times League and have enjoyed their offerings more than the Bruery's this year. I don't think I need to be in two beer clubs, so unless the initial allocations are exciting, I may jump ship.
