I don't think anybody likes beer labels that don't list the ABV. Fortunately we have Beer Advocate which is a great database and...oh wait... it says ABV is not available. ???

It would be helpful for the database to disable/block 'Adding beers' unless the ABV (or any other relevant information) is submitted.

Nowadays a brewery tweets " X beer will be available Y months from now" and 3 seconds later someone adds it here. A still nonexistent beer with very little information other than the name and the brewery. We don't even know if the beer its going to make it and if it does, the person who adds it never comes back to update the entry. No reason too, they already got the karma which is why they rush it.

Sounds good, but unfortunately brewers don't always make ABV, the exact style, availability/release info, etc. available.

    A few thoughts:

    1) No one gets karma for adding a beer right now. but even if they did, isn't the idea to have as many beers listed on here as possible. I agree that lots of beers get added with minimal information - but when I come across that I click the update info button and add what I can. Its a collective effort.

    2) What do you do with breweries that don't disclose the ABV of their beers. And yes, there are breweries that do that (*coughNewGlaruscough*)

In North Carolina the law dictates that beers at 6% and above list that info on the label. Below 6% lots of breweries save the ink it seems. Many websites list ABV, but not all. Percentages do vary batch to batch, but my bet is that no one is checking. As always, every state is likely different. Some breweries utilize a template that satisfies all known legal quirks for uniform packaging.

I would advocate for people to provide the additional information when they encounter these entries and the Site Editors will do their best to update the entries as quickly as we can...

I know I try to find all of the info when someone submits and update, so I think it is improving but as several others have stated, not all breweries publish ABV on the beers and in many cases they do not have to if the beer is below a certain ABV threshold (varies by state).

There are several local breweries that get releases out and approved by the state without listing the ABV. I have added these beers and updated the abv when it was released/determined. I think the system works well as it is, and yes @dbrauneis site editors do a great job of applying these updates

Exactly. I've stumbled across several beers that need polished. ABV's, style listed not the case, availability, etc.,. I just look at it as helping with housekeeping when I do a review.
