I'm assuming that the little window in the packaging is to be able to rotate the bottle to see the bottle date (finally)?

Also, canning lines are really expensive, there are issues with mobile canning, and Yellow Rose is really their only standout beer. Putting that much money into a canning line for one beer is a risky move.

YR 4 packs are 500 mL bottles.

I was told from the horses mouth that the reason they went with bottles instead of cans is because they have nowhere in their current brewery to store a mountain of empty cans. I believe them, because if you've been to their brewery, there literally is nowhere for can storage. If they get extra space, that may change, but who knows.

I'm starting to like Tornado Shark a lot more than YR. Very good strong ale and it's consistently good. If YR didn't have such variations between each batch I'd be more excited for the bottles.

This is nice but as someone who can find it for growler fills regularly, I doubt I will buy the bottles. The last few batches of YR I have had were delicious.

I disagree with this, canning isn't risky at all, it's been proven successful time and time again and furthermore, putting that into a flagship beer that's already been proven as successful is an even better move.

A mobile canning unit is relatively inexpensive and can yield impressive results (what Trillium uses for example) and storage isn't that expensive for cans, but hey, regardless I'm excited about the new YR format.

If this is 10 - 12 bucks it should fly off shelves.

Canning isn't risky? Go tell that to Texian, 8th Wonder and Strange Land. All of them have had problems with their cans which have resulted in pulled product. But you know what else is risky? Putting up the capital to purchase 1,000,000 can shells and have them sit around. Now, we can all agree that those 1,000,000 cans of YR would sell with ease, but if they don't have the capital then they just don't have the capital.

I don't know the economics of mobile canning, but I do know that they actually do not yield impressive results. On an episode of The Insiders Roundtable, I believe Episode #55 or Episode #56, the dude from Pipeworks talked about the downsides of mobile canning. Basically, they are very complicated machines that do not always work properly. I'm not trying to argue here, but I do not take what a brewery like Pipeworks says with a grain of salt.

@Can_has_beer Good points. I can definitely see that side of it, and have also heard that mobile canning can result in inconsistencies (but doesn't YR already suffer from this in bottles?) I also get having to front capital and not wanting to, or not having it.

I just think YR in cans, whatever it takes to get there, is a sound investment. In my opinion they should cut production of all the other random beers they pump out and put that into canning YR. No other beers they make even come close. LP could really dominate Texas craft beer, look at Live Oak.

As someone who likes to add these in trades, this is pretty close to perfect. I will buy the bottles

Just want to state for the record, I'm not saying I won't be buying it in bottles, I just will end up buying a lot less than I would if it were in cans

Don't get me wrong, I totally want YR in cans too. If I had my choice, I'd go cans all the way, but I understand now that their business decisions are more complicated than my wants.

I don't have a problem with them making other beers besides YR, and I don't have a problem with them growing organically and slowly. I don't own the brewery, after all. They did just put in two 120 BBL tanks this year, so that probably wasn't cheap.

Yea, I did see they added those tanks recently, and I'm sure it's fun and satisfying for them to experiment with new beers. They're just sitting on a gold mine with YR, I'm sure they'll get there eventually.

The only sad part for me is i'm coming to Texas next week, and because of the bottle switch there is either going to be very low, or pretty much no Yellow Rose for the next month or two (this is what I was told by a store). I am going to bring a howler with me and drink it down there, but Not my favorite thing to transport back.

I just checked some total wines, and it looks like some of the area got some, so I am most likely going to put a store pickup order in. The one I planned to hit is out, so I'll find another.

I'm going to be in Austin this weekend, based on this information that was received from the brewery, do you all think there will be a shortage of tap accounts / craft beer shops receiving yellow rose in the Austin area as well? Planned on hitting craft pride this afternoon, saw they had it yesterday, hoping it won't be few and far between

If you have a car, check out @lonestarbev or Lone Star Taps and Caps. You could get one of their disposable growlers, which should be much easier to transport. I believe the growlers are only $1.

I am going off information that I was told. So take it with a grain of salt. They said that places would be getting some this week and then none for 2 months as they switched the bottling line.
