Good morning BA, have a great Saturday!

Fantastic as always. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, and pine hops; with some light honey/biscuity malt; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/rind bitter finish. Sticky/resinous and crisp/dry mouthfeel; touch of grainy malt. I always rotate through the variations when I buy singles.

Great English brown ale! Glad they brought it to the fall seasonal. Wasn't a fan of either of the pumpkin beers they released before. Flavors of big nutty medium roast coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, and light chocolate; with a touch of herbal hops. Light herbal/roasted coffee bitterness; creamy medium-plus bodied mouthfeel. Will be grabbing this again for sure.

Fantastic this year, again. Flavors of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, apple, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and light clove/pepper yeast spice. Balanced sweetness and yeast/oak spice on the finish. A bit above medium bodied with a very smooth finish with light-moderate creaminess/slickness in the mouthfeel. Great balanced between the barrel and quad complexity. Well attenuated and not overly sweet. This was my last one, hope they release another batch at the end of the year!

My last 2014(I think). Big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, and light smoke/charred malt; with a hint of licorice/dark fruits. Roast/char bittersweet finish; full bodied creamy/silky/slick feel. Fairly drying on oak/bourbon spice and roast/char bitterness. Definitely more barrel presence than coffee now. Not as amazing as fresh, but still outstanding. A bit more bitter than I expected, having had one of these about 6 months ago.

    Cheers

Well then, what the hell happened to the thread? Enjoyed the SNPA while I got the smoker started. Considering the weather forecast for Sunday I decided to smoke the biscuit today. Cheers!

Big day on campus, opening game of the season. Things have been buzzing around here since dawn. Starting out with a breakfast brew . . .

Appearance is rich gold with white cap and decent lacing.

Aroma carries a scent of fresh bread and something like clean green melon.

Taste is a combination of the aromas and is malt dominant leaning toward dryness. It feels rich without any taste of sweet. Hop presence is enough to balance the malt but no more. A bit of richer malt in the aftertaste which follows a short, clean finish. The brewers told me their goal was to create a flavorful food friendly ale and in that they succeeded. Quite popular in the local restaurants and with local customers generally.

Texture is just short of medium.

Overall this strikes me as truth in packaging. Brewer's description on the label is a single hop session ale brewed in the style of a mild English Pub Ale and that's what it is. Just a few flavors working harmoniously together make it more than simple but not complex. Designed as a food ale (3.76%) to complement rather than dominate a dish. I've paired it with diverse things from pot roast to spicy crawfish and it works admirably. A real all rounder and very easy to drink.

If you are trying to bring out citrus use the lighter oil and rice vinegar. Add a bit of honey for sweetness and then don't add garlic but a pepper is fine in the saute pan. Greens, and sliced beets and daikon coming up to go alongside those wings from yesterday. To my son I have one thing to say. "So this is not potatoes but it's still gonna have some meat." My favorite beer is the pilsner. Start your day plain. Just wood. Then get your knife. This beer says it has fresh hops in it so I am gonna use a pepper.

I think the beer is more IPAish than oktoberfesty on my first sip and the first nose is sultry with bell pepper, white pepper and lemon. I may have to drink a bunch of these. Spice and shrubbery. Who said shrubbery on beer advocate? Not really pine so softer presentation of a fresh hop. Lemony light . This beer is dry but does give way to malt in the end.

Been awhile since my last WBAYDN post. This is my last 2014 Founders Breakfast Stout. Flavors have mellowed some, smooth drinking on the first CFB Saturday of the year. Go Gators!

Bottled April 2015, been sitting on this one almost a year. Super smooth and rounded roast, chocolate, coffee flavours. Only a hint of alcohol perceptible. Great stuff.

    Morning BA!

Night one of the weekend home alone with the 2 year old was a resounding success, albeit I didn't get to hang out here last night. Early morning as we're headed to a museum in the city. Gotta have some coffee before we hit the road.

This is my last bottle of this. I had forgotten about it. Its still really good, but nothing like it was fresh. Ah well.

All y'all enjoy your games today, I've got to wait until tomorrow night for my Fighting Irish to kicks some Texas butt. (or since they're ND narrowly escape with a win ... )
