    Hey folks!

So I had the chance to get down to Weymouth and check out the new digs for Barrel House Z.

All barrel aged liquid - not specifically bourbon, either, as I'm drinking a sherry barrel aged brown sugar ale as I type this. There was a fantastic sounding Woodford reserve aged irish red, a tequila aged pilsner and a porter (among others) which had already kicked.

They are cash and carry at the moment BUT are opening up seating this fall. As one of us who likes to hunt for something different, I like to think it is a happy addition to the New England family.

Had the tequila barrel (1 month) Ginned pilsner (gin botanicals added). Maybe a touch more botanicals than I'd like but the barrel wasn't overdone and the beer nice and malty. Excited to try more, as well.

Had the Sunny & 79 (tequila barrel) at Passport in Weymouth Landing and then again at Tip Tap Room. Really enjoyed it.

Havent been there yet despite it being right down the street. My dad picked up a growler of the gin barreled (forget the name), he's not a major beer fan but was happy to knock it back with a cigar on the back deck of his house.

I was the winner of their inaugural hombrew competition and had the opportunity to brew my beer there. Look for Jane Rae's Amber Ale, an unfiltered amber aged in rum barrels. They have been selling some of it too go, but are holding back most of it to have on tap when they open the tap room. They are sending me to GABF next month and have entered my beer in the competition out that as their only entry in it.

Have had the opportunity to try all the beers they have so far, and there is really not a bad one in the bunch. The Townie Imperial Red in whiskey barrels and the Highland Porter aged in scotch barrels are crazy good!

The cool thing about being their first winner, is the opportunity to see the brewery being built week by week from the empty shell it was to what it is now.

Damn man, congrats! That's awesome - very nice of them to do something like that. I've heard nothing but promising things about them so I'll have to make the trip to Weymouth soon

I will be the guest for their Meet the Brewer night there next Thursday 9/15 from 6-8 pm. Come on down! Check their website for any changes though...where the ABCC is dragging their feet on the final tap room license, Meet the Brewer night may have to be pushed if they don't have the license in time. I mean who wants to come to a brewery and not be able to have a pint or two, right?

The bureaucracy in MA is just maddening. Hopefully Charlie Baker's push for government agencies to streamline their regulations will continue.

So they are still waiting on their pouring license but my Meet the Brewer night is still on, but as a function instead of just a regular night at the tap room. Because of that, it's a $30 cover for unlimited samples and their mac and cheese empanadas. 6-8 pm tomorrow night (9/15).

Stopped by today. It's a neat space. Didn't notice that they didn't update their website so I went in with hopes of trying the porter which had evidently kicked last week. Alright... saw scotch ale on the list so I ordered that. Didn't taste any barrel on it, evidently it's the first non-barrel aged brew they've done. Ok. It was pretty good. Figured I needed to try something from a barrel while I was there so I ordered the dunkel aged in rum. It was not lacking in barrel character at all! In fact, it tasted like straight rum with a splash of beer, I couldn't even finish it.

Staff was really friendly, told me about some upcoming brews including a BA RIS. I'll be back to try that before I think about writing them off.

Do you think someone who likes rum would like it or was it just bad?

Perhaps if you're a rum fan? It was much too strong for my liking. Guy said the rum barrels were freshly emptied but to me it was bordering on taking a shot of Captains

Stopped by on Sunday was really impressed with the space and staff. Beers weren't too shabby either. Certainly a nice addition to the South Shore
