True, they do sell out of hot items quickly.

I more think of them as my weekly beer spot. For example, I'm not a huge Rogue fan, but I saw they had some weird 4 and 8 hop IPA's I'd never seen. I bought one of each rather than having to grab a six pack of one or the other, since I may not like them at all.

Tons have places have "pick your own six" sections but it's usually old/boring beer. I love being able to pick out anything.

I honestly haven't even seriously considered a pick 6 in a long time, so I will definitely have to give B&C a shot. I don't regret purchasing 4 packs of beers like Cumulus, but there are also times when I just want to try a beer (Paletas - Prickly Pear being my current want) that I probably don't want 6 of.

Grabbed the last Son of Juice off the shelf at Binny's on Grand. Have to say I'm pretty surprised it lasted the night, since I have horrible luck with Grand and limited releases.

I almost reported this post out of jealousy.

I strike out all the time! Seriously though, it makes me wonder if a bunch of other Binny's (South Loop or Clark, for example) still have it. I only went to Grand because I can walk there; I almost never find what I'm looking for since there are so many people lurking in the Loop who pounce on this shit.

Dunno if you or anyone else cares, but O's Tap on Western just listed Son of Juice as being on tap there. 16 oz./$6, which is a solid deal.

I Want My IPA as well, for Mikerphone fans (I've heard it's good).

I Want My IPA on draft?!

I was hoping for a quiet night home tonight, but...

I'm just as surprised/intrigued as you are (I just probably can't make it). $13 for 32oz. of SoJ + I Want My IPA sounds pretty great.

    Updated today!!

I'm not sure I can hack it, but damn that sounds good...I've only had Kentuckley on draft from Mikerphone, one foggy night at Fischman's...

They definitely are serving them - and were previously serving SS. You can tell if you look at their instagram acct. The one thing I'm not sure is if it's truly on tap or they get a shipment of bottles. Because they show a lot of Mikerphone bottle pics.

Son of juice is definitely a keg.

It must've been a heck of a foggy night if somehow you had Kentuckley from Mikerphone, and not Transient.

    Yep, it sure was.

I think I had Sizzurp from Mikerphone. I overserved myself.

So I've been following this thread as I never really paid much attention to whether NE style IPA's were brewed in Chicago or not. In the last week or so I picked up some Cumulus and just finished a glass of Son of Juice. I gotta confess --- I don't get it. Can't say I'd ever buy either one again.

I've never had true NE style IPA's but if this is what they're going for count me out. (And, no, I've never come close to getting any SS either.) I was drinking Son of Juice tonight thinking "someone stole the aftertaste to my IPA". I want it back! Tasted like hop-flavored water.

    What am I missing?

And the endless debate continues...It's been discussed ad nauseam.

Some get it, some don't. Don't feel bad for being on either side.

But mark my words, one day this style will be recognized. It's just too amazing to ignore forever.

Not gonna lie, definitely let down by SoJ. I think the hop combo in Juice Pants worked better, and despite this looking the part, it doesn't really taste like an NE IPA to me. Solid beer, but outside of the look, I think I like Juice Pants more.

It's like any style; for each individual, some breweries are going to nail it better than others.

Now you may just not like the style, butI wouldn't call it quits after 2 tries.

Personally I think Mikerphone & Transient are leading the pack, but I also understand they're tough to acquire.

Hasn't it been recognized already? The beers made in this style (even though the style doesn't have a true definition) are some of the most sought after, and there are certainly threads dedicated to them, or the breweries that specialize in the style, on this forum. Maybe I'm mis-interpreting what you mean by "recognized", but I definitely wouldn't say it's being ignored.

As others said, it's just personal taste. I don't think the couple you had are the most representative of the style, but I haven't been a big fan of the style in general either (whether it be Treehouse, Trillium or some of the Mikerphone bottlings). I much prefer something such as Ninja vs. Unicorn or PW's fish series beers.

I'd say try more of them, as you've had a small sample size. You may not like them in the end, but you're still getting to try some different beers. If they still don't appeal to you after awhile, then I'd give it up.
