Hey guys, I wanted to introduce myself. I've been pretty active with meeting up with BA members in Alabama when I get a chance. Now, I'm moving to Bisbee and will be the brewmaster at a new brewery in Tombstone starting in two weeks. I'm looking forward to meeting some Southwestern BA's in the near future. If you're in the area, it'd be cool to get to know some of you!

Pardon me for barging in to your thread, but I just think it's cool you'll be brewing in Tombstone, AZ. I'm about as big a fan as you can get of that movie, and the history of the participants of that story.

Anyway, I'm curious as to how many breweries, especially in the area, brew themed beers around the town/movie/people. My buddy brewed one of my favorites...

Good luck in your new brewery/environs.

I'm not really sure about themed beers. If you are into that type of naming though, I think we'll be right up your alley. There aren't any other breweries currently in Tombstone. There are 2 in Bisbee. We will have a 15 BBL brewhouse showing up very soon and we'll be canning, even though our production level is going to be low for the first year. I also will likely be brewing bretts and sours which appeared to be something that isn't happening much in Arizona... However, I've only been once, so I could have just missed which breweries are doing those.

I've only visited Tombstone once so far (when I interviewed with the owner of the brewery) and the town is really interesting. It's funny seeing how people recreate the Wild West dress and everything there.

^ Cool deal. (Maybe "themed" was the wrong word to used. It was just the label/naming that related to Tombstone. That sounds like a nice setup, particularly as the only place in town. Hopefully, between tourists into craft and locals, you'll be well on your way to attaining a solid fanbase.

If I'm ever lucky enough to make it there, or that one other AZ city I need to visit, I'll definitely look up your brewery.

Glad to hear you got the job! I've read a lot of your posts around here over the years and I think they made a good choice for head brewer. I'm a brewer at Dragoon, so if you're ever in Tucson shoot me a message, I owe you a beer. Hopefully i can make it out to the Bisbee area one of these days, I'll try to stop by. Cheers!

So do you have any professional brewing experience and training or are you just another homebrewer who is going to make homebrew on a larger scale? I say this because so many of the places opening up dont make very good beer.

I lived in Bisbee from 2003-2009. It is a cool little town for sure. I wish you had been brewing mixed culture beer when I was there. The nearest brewery when I was there was Nimbus up in Tucson.

Shoot me a PM with any questions if you want.

Check some of his post out. He has been posting in the brewing section since I have been here and has been a great resource to home brewers in those forums. Good luck with your new endeavor @honkey.

    Welcome to Arizona,
I can't wait for there to be a brewery in Tombstone. I own Craft 64 in Old Town Scottsdale, which is the only restaurant/bar in the metro Phoenix area that only features Arizona brewed beer on their taps. We have 36 taps and have been open for a year and a half . We are proud that we've become a mecca for the local brewing scene. There is rarely a day, when a local brewer, or brewery owner isn't enjoying themselves in my place. We are also an award winning pizzeria. We feature beer from all over the state,, even from the small breweries that have limited distribution, so when you guys are ready to let a few kegs go, we will be interested. I can't wait to try a Big "on the" Nose Kate's IPA. a Wyatt Burp Pilsner, or what ever you are going to call the beers.
Take care, and best of luck,
    Scott Hagen

Weedy (honkey) is no joke I can assure you. He is not simply a homebrewer with some wacky idea to go pro. He is a true professional in the craft beer game for sure. He has won medals at GABF and many more. We're really going to miss him here in the Huntsville, Alabama area for sure. He has done outstanding work for Blue Pants and will certainly do great things in Arizona. I've actually been to Tombstone and Bisbee and think his endeavor will go over well there. I spent some time at nearby Fort Huachuca when I was in the Army. I have also been a craft beer fan for ~20 years, BA for 13+ years, and owner of Wish You Were Beer (bottle shop/taproom) in Huntsville for nearly four years now if my opinion means anything. This community will really miss Weedy. Consider yourselves in Arizona very lucky to have our Alabama native brewing in your area now and check out his beers!

If you can make it up to Flagstaff, Dark Sky and Mother Road are making really great beers.

@honkey I was surprised to see you are leaving Blue Pants. If it's not too personal, I was curious as to why you are leaving Huntsville? But regardless, good luck out west!

Although I didn't get to try it, many of my friends had good things to say about the Tombstone IPA that came through Tucson last weekend. Looking forward to trying that and your other beers when I get the chance.
