I have been a big fan of Notch for quite a few years now and I finally had a chance to visit their new brewery and tap room in Salem and it was one of the most pleasant drinking experiences I have had in a while. I am sick of drinking tiny pours in small unpleasant tasting rooms in industrial parks. And I refuse to wait in line for hours to buy any beer, no matter how amazing or rare. The Notch brewery is set up for drinking and hanging out. The staff was super efficient and friendly. I didn't have time to try the brewery-only releases, but the Zwickl was very nice and the Czech session pils was just perfect. Speaking of rare beers, Chris Lohring is brewing world class versions of beers that very few breweries in America are brewing, like their Black Lager (formerly Černé Pivo). I can't wait until this is on tap at the brewery. Such a drinkable beer. A trip to Salem is far cheaper than a trip to Prague or Munich. You want a rare beer experience that doesn't involve waiting in a long line, head to Salem and enjoy a few liters with some friends. New England needs more beer gardens.

I finally tried Left of the Dial this weekend on a camping trip. Thought it was awesome. Been digging flavorful under 5% beers this summer. Also grabbed the hoppy wheat and it was great too.

Do they have their current taplist online anywhere? I've been thinking of swinging by and it would be nice to know in advance what is available.

I've been to the new spot 3 times so far. It is an amazing spot to grab a few drinks. Dog and Pony show was a highlight for me but everything they do is very high quality.

I don't think that it's on the official website right now. This is what was on this weekend:
    Plenty for All
    Dog and Pony Show
    Left of the Dial
    Zwickel
    Czech Pils
    Radler
    Infinite Jest

I love the new spot. It is an awesome location. It is super chill, right on the water. It's a great place to hang out in the sun. They did a great job with the taproom and Biergarten areas.

Perhaps I'm biased from living a three minute walk from there, but my love for Notch continues to grow. I didn't think much of Left of the Dial a few years ago when I first had it, but now it's becoming a go-to, and Infinite Jest is similarly flavorful yet drinkable. The space is amazing, and the crew has a great sense of humor. Can't wait to see what Chris has in store.

As I've grown older the effects of alcohol have become more debilitating so these session brews have been mainstays of my fridge since Notch's inception. I look forward to getting up to the new taproom and checking out some brews that don't make it to the packies.

Working on this for the website. Right now it will be twitter and facebook for weekly updates, and /or daily changes. Next week we will start rolling our new beers on a consistent basis and hope to have the website rolling with updates. This week's only change is Gates of the West (classic British Bitter) replaces Zwickel Bier. Cheers!

I stopped there a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it. Their stuff had a lot of flavor for session beers. Had a couple things on tap and didnt realize that they were session beers until later.

My only complaint was that the sizes for getting drafts was real strange. I think they had a 12 oz option and a 24 oz option, but you could also get a half pour "schnitt" of any of the two sizes for half the cost. So you could get a 12 oz pour, a 24 oz pour, a half pour of the 24 oz which was just the 12 oz and was priced the same, or the half pour of the 12 oz. Seemed like a confusing system when they could just say "draft options = 24 oz, 12 oz, or 6 oz".

Everything is offered in a 1 liter(33.8oz), half liter(16.9 oz) or a schnitt which is the half liter glass filled up half way. It's the least confusing way to serve beer that exists.

Having lived in the Czech Republic for a stint, I appreciate the f*** out of Notch. Love their stuff. True to style, while being adventurous when they can, and mightily damn drinkable.

I dropped by a local bar (Deep Ellum) last week to have a few drinks with a pal. Usually at a good beer bar I prefer to take advantage of the opportunity to try two or three different brews, as I intended to do there, but my first was a Notch pale ale they had on tap, Plenty for All. Change of plans: I'll just have several of these, thanks. I could've kept drinking that brew all day long.

Notch ended up being a highlight of our NE trip! I really enjoyed everything about this place. Atmosphere, the beers were fantastic and the variety was awesome. This will be on our must-visit list when we come back to the area. I would love to see more places like this pop up in the country.

We actually preferred Notch to Jacks Abby... I personally thought the lagers were better.

Interesting to see some Notch love amongst the ticking/chasing/trading/collecting threads around New England. Breath of fresh air to see a brewery/beer hall that exists for people to get together & simply drink beer, nothing more.

Plan to visit Notch soon, but in the interim just bought a 12er of Infinite Jest as hoppy opposite to my OFest beer season.
