No idea what the problem is, but I was able to paste the whole review onto this thread just fine. This was not a problem last week.

Thanks to @utopiajane for the excellent start!

I am just home from an extra long day of work and chores, and distributing tomatoes to friends (was gifted a bushel basket filled to top with beefsteaks, and 5 pounds of cherries), now I am gonna sauce a goodly amount with some homegrown garlic, onions, and peppers. Of course that is thirsty work, looking forward to joining y'all with a beer I am very much looking forward to drinking. See ya then

Can you tell us a little about the beer? Stouts and IPA's are very different which style do you like best and why?

This brewery has started to show up at my local Farmers market on a regular basis. So now beer comes closer to me!

    -----------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Solid dark amber body, with large glowing hints of orange and ruby color. Head creation is a uniform off light tan, almost yellow vanilla color. Good small island puck and excellent retention. Good soapy cling, even some ring like lacing, making for a very nice looking beer.

Fleshy aromatic hops hit right off. Comes off a bit wet hop like and very nice. Hits with a bit of leafy greens and grapefruit slightly. Juiced quite a bit as well, with excellent American hop presence.

Palate is taken down by a slightly muted and lighter than expected mouthfeel. Very light bodied, a touch wet and more sensing pale ale like territory. Hop abundant and quite varied. Mid palate mixing with a bit of caramel but also excellent fruit. Grapefruit and wet rind, but a good bit of drying astringency as well. Subsequent sips seem to bring out also some earthy hops as well.

There's a lot of hop play and makes for a good palate experience, but the malt depth and lightness is a bit to weak, coming off like a session IPA in a way. Overall though still gets the job done.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75 | BA Generated Score: 3.88

THis mornign all my text was blue. I tried to link the name of the thread and all my text after that was blue and I had to figure out hwo to fix it. Sometimes it's impossible. You all know I make a lot of typos but this one is about a quirk. You can't type after you put the link in or everything is the link.

G' afternoon NBS-ers! Busy morning for me, as usual on a Sunday: Grocery shopping, laundry, and general cleaning.....Oh, and a quick beer run for the Monkey With Knives BIF#4. :grinning:

Today's entry is from a Florida brewery in Largo.

Barley Mow Brewing Co: Maven Chocolate Milk Stout

So let's get at this review:

Poured from a 12 oz. can into my Snorkel tulip. No date on the can, however the 6 pack ring says it was canned July 7, 2016. 6.5% abv 22 IBUs

The body is nice and black, no light comes through when held up to the light. 1/2 fingers worth of a tan khaki head that dissipates quickly to a then ring around the edges of the glass. NIce cola like appearance.

Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, cocoa; smells like chocolate milk to me!

Taste is right there with the aroma! Roasted malts up front with some bittersweet chocolate and a little bit of an espresso-like bite. There's some chocolate sweetness in the middle. Not overly sweet.

Light to medium mouth feel. Really easy drinking milk stout; has just the right amount of carbonation. I nice lingering bittersweet chocolate sits on the tongue after drinking this one.

Overall, I like this one! It seems a little "tricky" to me; and by that I mean it has a really light body feel to it, but it has a great full flavor that sits on your tongue. Might have to go get more of this one!

This might make it into the box of my target as well....:grinning:

    Cheers!

Not my typical Sunday locations for a review of a new beer but today finds us at Dunes Edge Campground on the very outer reaches of Cape Cod. The weather the past few days has been a little bit of everything but rain which is good even though we badly need the rain. We have hiked in the dunes and spent some time at the beach. I participated in a 100 mile charity bike ride yesterday. We spent some time on Friday exploring a new brewery here on the Cape. Hog Island Beer Co. It is from there that I bring you my review for the today.

My new beer for this Sunday is there Pig-Pen Phamhouse Ale
This beer pours a darker orangey brown color into my snifter glass, yes I bring real glasses camping! First off I would say the color is not what I expect in a farmhouse style beer.
The nose is towards a malty style of beer and not the normal funk you get in a farmhouse beer. This even has almost a sweet aroma.
The taste is different to say the least. Almost a little sweet but it does have that little bit of funk from the Brett yeast in the back. A real strange combination to me. Yup some caramel from the malt with the flavor from the Brett yeast. STRANGE!
All in all not what I expect in a farmhouse style beer.
This will probably be one of my lower scores perhaps something in the 3 range. Not something I would recommend to a friend.

The good point is we're headed home tomorrow and there will be a stop at Trillium on the way home!

Got through page one as we nibbled at lunch...

Really enjoyed your description of this beer, I felt I might know what to expect when I get a chance to try it .

I have yet to grab a beer from The Veil. But my impression reading the mid/south Atlantic forums is exactly what you said here, bolded. We'll get down to Richmond again soon and grab some, I am sure.

I can confirm that the name was a completely intentional counter to the ad campaign last Super Bowl, surprising no one, I am sure. I, however, was not that impressed with it when it first came out (ha! apparently I added it) - and I gave it a bad look and smell rating; may require a revisit.

Being a fan of Curieux, I figured this was a hands-down winner. Sadly, however, the confluence of flavors just didn't work for me...the addition of the coffee did not seem to work with the fruity esters from the Allagash house yeast.

Like most Allagash beers, James Bean is pricey. Not only am I glad I paid well under the average price of $20/bottle, I'm equally satisfied that I only purchased one bottle.

Am I in the minority with regard to my disappointment with this beer?

It's New Collaborative Philosophical Smoked Baltic Porter Sunday here in cool, autumnal, windy Montreal. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill Sunday around these parts: laundry, groceries, and so on. Luckily, football's back and so I can watch some games, especially the excellent Packers game that just finished up, relax, and have a beer with you fine folks.

Today feels like fall (a good thing in my book) so I thought I would have a fall beer that I have only been sitting on because my beer's in a dorm fridge and I don't usually crouch down low enough to see it staring me in the face. I have it thanks to Hill Farmstead and a stand-up BA and I am really looking forward to it.

I really like Baltic porters and I feel like (at least in Quebec) they have been becoming more and more common the last year or so. So that's been nice, I don't know if it is the case in the States. Also, smoked beers are usually pretty great in my book. It obviously depends on how smoky they are, but I usually like 'em. We'll have to find out about this one...:astonished:

I went a little nuts with my pour, but I don't mind a bit.

The beer is lovely in the glass. Ruby-highlights in squid ink with a big, fluffy pillow of tan head. The sweetness is well balanced by smoke and stays that way even as it warms (and it really opens up as it warms!). I don't know if I am hallucinating or not, but to my nose the smell actually degraded and improved before improving again as it warmed. The taste isn't quite as complex as the nose, but features a lot of the same nice fruity, roasty, toasted marshmallowiness. Nice level of smokiness to fruitiness on the whole. I liked it and would have it again.

    Cheers, everybody!

    Here is my 'real' review.

L- The beer is a beautiful clear amber with a towing 3 finger fluffy white head. The head recedes to a thin film. Lacing is moderate.
S-The nose is typical for a marzen. Spicy noble hops over a mildly sweet malt presence.
T- The beer is very well balanced with neither the hops nor the malt dominating, but blending into a very pleasant whole.
F- The carbonation is lightly prickly after the initial pour. The beer is fairly thin, but this combined with the balanced flavors make for a very drinkable beer.
O- I'm very impressed with this beer and I'll be buying more of this before the season is up.

For my first stout on the day, I am enjoying an extinct animal in Pretty Things Fumapapa.

I'd been holding on to this for a while, and while I haven't needed a special occasion per se, opening weekend of NFL style pigskin seems like a decent enough reason.

Beautiful looker, as this opaque black beer has no problems creating a thick, foamy beige head that settles into something that looks like it should sit on top a cappuccino.

Nose has three separate but equal, distinct fragances - coffee, oak and piercing alcohol. Allowed to longer and imagine, I get a bit more chocolate as I continue to breathe it in.

Taste immediately takes on a bit of coffee, then dark chocolate blended with just a hint of plum. Fairly sweet, with just a bit of smoke character on the rather cloyingly sweet finish.

Again, shame these guys aren't at it any longer as this is a wonderful beer.

Happy New Marzen Sunday, BA's. Maria, thank you for today's introduction. I'm usually reviewing another style for NBS but today the beer drinking stars aligned. So, last Thursday night, I was reading the thread about favorite Marzens and there seemed to be consensus that Ayinger's Oktober Fest is very good. So I checked Beer Menus and found that the nearest bottle shop that stocks it is located in Glen Rock, NJ. It just happened that I had a meeting scheduled in Glen Rock on Friday morning so the die was cast. It's very good but I think I prefer SN's 2016 version, which I find to be a little nuttier. Here's my review:

    4.1/5 rDev +4.1%

    Look: 4 Smell: 4 Taste: 4.25 Feel: 4 Overall: 4

Poured into glass mug. It pours a clear amber with copper hues and one finger of foamy, milk-white head and extensive lacing that did not dissipate through the pour. It smells of dark bread, nuts, spice, and a whiff of caramel. The taste is sweeter than the smell with abundant caramel, bready malt, nuts, spice, and a slight apple or raisin fruitiness at the finish. It is medium-bodied with pleasant carbonation, and the 5.8% ABV is barely noticeable. This is a very easy-drinking beer. Overall, it is a delightful Marzen that is ideal for outdoor drinking on a crisp autumn afternoon. It's one of the best Marzens I've had.

By the way, is anyone else having trouble cutting and pasting a review into this thread? It was never a problem until recently. When I hit "paste," nothing happens. It's a pain retyping it. Or is it just me? Enjoy your new beers today!
