[IMG] So this pours a very dark and murky yellow with a stick two finger white head that clings to the glass like a fat kid does ice cream cake. 4.5

Smell is guava, mango, papaya, clove, bread, and Fruity Pebbles. 4.25

Taste follows perfectly loads of tropical fruit from start to finish, with some clove, banana, and grapefruit. 4.25

Mouthfeel is almost medium, mild amount of life, not dry at all, and very easy drinking. 4

Overall this thing drinks like a North East IPA, very confusing, but really a tasty treat. Thanks @jzeilingerfor this one man. 4.25[IMG]

Yes...hard to capture feelings in words. I witnessed the space shurtle disaster first hand which just devastated the space coast and just left a hole in the heart. My first thought when 9/11 happened was oh God we have people from my team on the road and folks from my hometown in those towers...not all survived, and words cant describe the thoughts and emotion. I travelled for work the following week...toughest trip I have ever taken, leaving the family. It was always hard to do, but circumstances made it almost impossible. We still had peole out, week later, that had not made their way home from US destinations and Europe. Seeing armed personnel in airports was simultaneously terrifying and comforting.

Thank you for sharing. Stories like yours need to be shared and remembered lest we forget. Attention spans seem to grow dangerously shorter with every passing generation. Cheers.....

    Here's my review:

    3.34/5 rDev -3.5%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.25

poured from a 12 oz bottle.

A: pours an Amber color march darker than I expected. Thin ring of foam and light lacing.
S: some orange and slightly yeasts
    T. Orange and slightly sweet. There is a degree of breadiness. There is hint of Heineken in the flavor
    MF: kind of thin.
O: there is nothing objectionable about this beer. Would be fine at a bbq. Not something I would seek out again though.

I have enjoyed many Tesla. Haven't had a butter bomb.
@Sixpoint Has there been an issue with Tesla?

There's a review from yesterday that mentions butter, but is also positive :astonished:.

It's a major fail in this beer, imo. All the more aggregating, because it was slotted for a shipping box :slight_frown:.

Evening NBSers! I have come to the conclusion that Sundays are difficult for me, so I have accepted the fact that I believe I will be one of the last post-ers every week. Which is fine! This way I get to read everyone else's without too much stress of return visits . Been a fun week: my daughter started her first days of preschool, visited some old friends, met some new beers, and crushed frivolous challenges . Battled the consequences of indulging while being on call:flushed:, but overall...a very pleasant week. And now for a truly new beer to me and a one time brew, I give you my NBS consumed only a few hours ago,

    Tustin Brewing Company
    20th Anniversary DIPA

8.3% abv, undisclosed IBU, SRM 5-7ish (Don't let the pic fool you!)

A: Pours an inviting brilliant gold with a fluffy white head. Brilliantly clear if it weren't for a few floaties (if you understand what I mean).

A: Boom!, with the hops! Tons of juicy mango and papaya, a little "weedy", and mild citrus. Mild sweet malt undertones.

F: Yup! This is the real deal new age west coast DIPA. Much of the same transfers from aroma to taste. Juicy and sweet bursts, with a fine balanced bitterness.

F: Rediculously crisp and refreshingly smooth, well carbonated, and impossible to believe it's alcohol content. Not a trace.

O: Tustin has come a loooong way over the last few years. I've always loved them, but truly they have gone from zero to hero beer wise, and have captured that transformation brilliantly with this first bottled offering.

    Cheers everyone, and happy Sunday!

Am I breaking a rule quoting the same post twice?!? Just so happens I ran into this beer today:

Granted, I'm using a hotel plastic glass :slight_frown:, but agree the head billowed and laced, and remained as sea foam after.

Still love the crawlspace dust description, and I totally get it. I think of ash as smokey, which don't get (and imagine you didn't intend). I do get the rest of your interpretation, though likely wouldn't have come up with it myself. I actually don't think it's power of suggestion that I get what you're getting.

I get the fruits, but definitely feel this beer shows its likely intentional funk. You say Brett forward, but that may be an understatement, in my experience. I get a lot of barn floor hay with accents of fruit impressions. That cheese reference from the nose I think fits again - a fruited funky cheese. That said, the lingering note is papaya-like to me.

Feel for me is a tad dry, and the carbonation was decent to just a tad flat (I could blame the "glass"ware on that).

I must say, this is one of those cases where I probably liked this beer more because I pseudo-shared it with someone. It's a style-blurring beer for sure, and Crooked Stabe does a very good job of making an enjoyable beer. I'd look at this more as a funky Belgian pale ale than an IPA, but maybe that's just me.

    @Lingenbrau - 10 page NBS?!? :astonished::grimacing::wink:

It was actually pretty cool outside coming home from work at 11 tonight. So, considering the change to nicer "let's not roast alive anymore" weather, I thought it might be appropriate to have my first Oktoberfest of the season. XD

Yep, it's Sierra Nevada's new collaboration Oktoberfest, which I went ahead and bought a 12-pack of this time (partly because I haven't seen six-packs yet, and partly because I ended up going back for a 12-pack of the 2015 one after finishing off my six-pack last year. XD)

I've heard people say this year's version is closer to the pale style of Oktoberfest beers, as opposed to last year's which was... sort a blend of the two, I think?... and you can tell there's a difference just by the appearance -- it's a shiny light golden color, reminding me a lot of a pilsner (that's not a bad thing of course, I actually really like when a beer has that really shiny clear gold color to it -- not just pale but a particular kind of pale that looks really nice.) Even has a decent number of little rising bubbles. Foam on top is not too thick, but that may be partly due to me pouring it pretty carefully -- what is there doesn't seem to be in any hurry to fade away entirely. The smell actually reminds me of last year's Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest, interestingly -- some hop spiciness and some interesting malty smells all mixing together in there.

Taste is nice also -- a bit crisper/less sweet than last year's but with similar malt flavors going on in there (there's a crackery/biscuity thing and then a sweeter flavor in the background.) A bit of a lingering spicy ticklish thing on my tongue even though hops aren't standing out a whole lot in the flavor on the first sip (okay, more like a gulp. I tried to take a small sip and it turned into three before I put the glass down. The feel is different from last year's but definitely still lends itself to drinking more than just a little bit at a time!) On my second gulp-sip I'm noticing sort of a doughy/almost pasta-like flavor in there too. For such a light-colored beer there are a lot of different malt-derived flavors going on here, and different ones than you'd expect from a pilsner-type pale beer (there's not so much of that dry grassy thing those usually have; maybe just a tiny bit on the end rather than it being one of the primary flavors.) A bit of a yeastiness to the smell, I'm noticing now. I think I'm picking up some flavor from the hops at the very start of every drink but I'm having difficulty describing exactly what that flavor is. As I'm reaching the end of the glass, I almost want to say that little pop of hop flavor at the start leans slightly in the "citrus rind/pith" direction, but it's not as "obviously citrusy" as the American-style hops? Interestingly, that seems to be a recurring pattern with Oktoberfest beers -- I like the taste of them right away, but I need to try them a few times before I can really put into words what it is I'm tasting. I suppose drinking three six-packs' worth of 2015's has given me some practice, though, since describing the malt flavors in this one wasn't hard at all.

Three "sips" and I had maybe a quarter of a glass left. Fourth one actually was a sip, trying to make it last a bit longer.... but it's already too late for that, another drink and it's all gone. Yeah, I think buying the 12-pack right away rather than trying a six-pack first was probably the right decision here! XD

Yup! I'm in Lake Forest, which is just south of Irvine, and only about 10-15 miles south of Tustin. My neck of the woods was where people moved to to get away from the "hustle and bustle", but as I'm sure you know as a fellow southern Californian, that ship has sailed! Cheers!

Yeah... I don't think I've got much in the tank tonight :flushed::slight_frown::wink:

Buttery beer can make you feel that way. It disagrees strongly with the palate . I don't think I have ever seen you ruffled at all =)

Now that I have had Focal, Heady and Crusher, I like them in that order. I do have to say while these are really great and iconic beers, it's hard to match the drinkabilty of TH. Very minimal palate fatigue even with TH hop monsters like Doppleganger and Very Hazy. The Crusher was so true to its name. Lol.
