I'm going to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) at the end of the month, anyone know if they allow outside alcohol into the country? I have a wine check luggage bag and want to bring some beers with me, but I don't want to lose all of them to DR customs. Thanks guys!
You can't survive on El Presidente and rum punches for a week? It's a resort I'm sure they have a selection of alcohol, no way I want to schlep beer on vacation involving an airplane, too much of a pain in the ass.
I think you may be able to but you should enjoy the local libations as much as possible. I would look for all local items to enjoy while on my trip, home beers will always be there.
We spent a week in Casa De Campo many years ago, it was quite nice. I wouldn't leave the resort though, but they had most things available, hell it's a resort, it's what they do. It was hot and the El Presidente was ice cold, all was good.
Jeez, just drink local while you're there. Why go thru the hassle of lugging your own down there? I dunno...maybe it's just me.
Your going on vacation. I'm packing to travel, make sure I have what I absolutely need. Beer isn't it. Now on the return trip hell ya, I hustled 3 bottles of rum thru JFK. I lived on El Presidente, and I drank rum punch till I was sober. I wouldn't chance getting hassled going on vacation, your outside the US , who knows who your going to deal with, besides I don't want to haul it.
I don't question the OP's motives. What if he's celebrating a special occasion and wants to do it with a bottle or two of a special beer? Sounds reasonable to me. There may be some countries where it's harder to being in alcohol though. That's where care is needed that the research is accurate. Unfortunately, I don't know the laws for the DR. Good luck, OP, and enjoy your vacation.
