I know! What am I going to do with all of my likes?

Karma definitely was cooler when it had a little picture of a glass - I strived towards that tulip glass for ages when it was around, when the little glass picture left a BA chunk of me died...

Since BK was dropped, I still review beers, contribute to forums, and post to WBAYDN and NBS regularly. But - without BK I am much less enthusiastic and motivated. I clearly didn't come to the site for just BK, but am participating less. I haven't moved towards another beer site - I am just finding other non-beer things to do. If this is happening to others, then overall BA will lose momentum, content will suffer, and potential new users will find a less interesting site, which may sway their decision on whether to join.

Agree wholeheartedly. We live in a facebook society though, where no one wants to do anything if they aren't recognized by others for how awesome they are for doing it.

Kind of where I'm at , I'm not really missing it, but if they bring it back that's ok too.

Well, there's no need to worry about not getting any wagging you've seen since the majority of those commenting are not wagging anything but are suggesting beer karma brings some value added to the information provided by the site and those who participate.

Posting again after awhile without beer karma. Have to say that my overall activity on this site hasn't dropped but I definitely dropped off posting pics on NBS and WBAYDN and I also several times said "eh, not gonna bother" on adding beers or other things that used to contribute to my beer karma. Plus I still miss seeing my Poobah status with my avatar.

Nothing is ever truly "free". Just like any website, app, or social media program, we are trading the right to use in exchange for viewing advertisements.

    I think it's a fair trade though.

This is the thing that bugs me. With the system that was recently done away with, folks were getting to certain levels, just by like farming. While there are those of us who have been adding beers, places, events and the like for years, and to have someone reach the same "status" in a year or two just for getting a bunch of likes by posting a dozen times a day on WBAYDN, cheapens our contributions. One persons game shouldn't be rewarded the same as anothers work.

I think the overwhelming consensus is that quantity of "likes" should not have as great an effect on "rank" as it previously did.

And I was quite clearly suggesting that it should/does not.

You were saying you did not get the dick wagging. That is what I commented on, not the dicussion of whether or not there is value added. They are different issues. Some agree with that some do not. But there is much not "dick wagging."

There have been numerous people in this thread stating "I want my poobah status back". If that differs from your definition of dick wagging, well so be it.

Pretty sure those comments were not done in a "dick wagging" way ...

    Beer Karma is coming back.

We decided this before it was disabled, but we wanted to reevaluate it and gather some feedback. We've done the latter.

In the meantime, I'd like to address some of the comments in this thread.
    1. We Don't Care. If we didn't, I wouldn't have created this thread or stated that "Your content and stats remain intact, and your contributions highly valued by us. And we understand the value of acknowledging contributions." in the announcement thread.
    2. We Don't Understand Its Value. If you read before you posted you'd understand that we do understand.
    3. Here for the Gamification. If you were posting just for points/likes/status level, then I'll be blunt and say that you've joined for the wrong reasons. BA isn't a game. First and foremost, it's a community resource, wherein we all contribute in an effort share with, and learn from, others. It's been this way for 20 years.
    4. Site Traffic Is Down. Not true. Maybe your usage is down, but our overall site traffic, membership and contributions is up and continues to grow. So much so that we recently upgraded our entire infrastructure in order to handle it.
As for when Beer Karma will return, we won't have an ETA until we complete our evaluation and design a new system.

Finally, thanks for all of the constructive feedback. We might not always act on it, but we're always listening and considering it.

    Updates to follow ...
