As has been pointed out in other "budget beer" threads, what is inexpensive in one part of the country, may not be in another location due to costs like taxes, shipping etc. Consider the OP's location before making suggestions, if you really want to be helpful.

And in some cases, the beer you recommend may not even be distributed in the OP's location:

Anchor IPA, Two Hearted and SN Celebration come to mind.

I assume you are looking for more than 6 beers as $15 can buy you just about any six pack, in that case, I'd go with a Sierra Nevada 12 pack. If that's not enough beer for the week, I'd go with 12 PBRs and a couple Sierra Nevada bombers ($3 here) or a case of PBR if you want more than ~16 beers.

Sadly, growlers aren't a good option in Illinois. Very few places fill them - only breweries - and the costs aren't great. Almost always over $10 for a 64 oz so 6 packs look favorable.

Bud and cheap whiskey. We used to call that a "citywide" back in Philly.

Compared to bombers a growler may be a good deal, but $10-12 for what is essentially a 5 pack isn't much of a deal.

In general you are absolutely correct. I am lucky enough to have a local place that has 2 growlers that are 5 bucks. Right now there is a Duclaw Gose and Yards Thomas Jefferson Spruce.

Agreed Eddy Fitz is a great beer - price per 6 pk will very by market though.....here in NE Ohio, where GLBC is from, a sixer is typically $8.99 - 9.99

Lagunitas IPA and or SNPA or Torpedo. Those would be my staples.

Also depending how long the 6-pack will stretch you through each week, I've found Two Hearted for about 9.99-11.99 for a sixer.

Ok , everyone loves Heady and Pliny. Everyone loves a great G.I. barrel aged stout. What I want to know is ...... what beer do you drink when you are on a budget? Ya I like to drink from the top shelf but lets face it I don't always wanna spend 5~10 bucks on a beer, I want to know some good beers at good prices that BAers go to.
What brought this topic up is that earlier this week I was at my local market and picked up 2 12ers ; 1 Ballast Point Sculpin variety pack and a Firestone Walker variety pack both at $12 a 12 pack. I think for a buck a beer these are nice pick ups!
So let your hair down, get our nose out of the clouds and tuck your pinkie in and share what you like to drink when you don't have the cash the order from the top shelf?
    ~Cheers

Most anything from Neshaminy Creek but especially the J.A.W.N. or the Trauger Pils.

Same with Yards, but especially the Pale Ale or the Brawler.

The Sly Fox line up also has some affordable beers.

It the budget is tighter than that I'll take a pass on beer entirely.
