Genesee, and anything with the 8.99 sixer price point so Genesee again, and never before seen in Wegmans I just discovered O.K. Beer. It's from Poland and it prices with Bittburger pint cans at 4 for about $5. I will have some cheap beer in cans please.

If things got tight for a short period, I'd cut how much I drink, from 4-6 a week to 2-3, and would drink through my cellar. That would last me months. After that, I'd revert to cheaper regional stouts such as Brau Bros Moo Joos, Central Waters Satin Solitude, West-O Coco Stout, or Big Skye Ivan The Terrible. I would quit drinking before resorting to macro AAL, just not a fan.

Lots of local breweries starting up/taking off in Knoxville. I've recently discovered Blackhorse Brewery and Pub's IPA in six pack cans. $8.99/sixer and it's fantastic stuff. I can also almost always find Sierra Nevada stuff at a great price point, too.

12 packs of Redhook ESB or Longhammer, Deschutes will also occasionally come on sale and Hopzeit is my current fav.

Sierra Nevada 12 packs are a bargain, usually $16 to $17 in Ohio. I buy them even when I'm not on a budget!

Am I missing something? Why is alchemist in here? I guess if you're local, that price point isn't bad. By I'm guessing OP traded for it. That's anything but economical.

If Op was being serious win the question, I stay away from bombers, trades, and actual draft pours if the budget doesn't call for it. So that leaves 90% of what's out here. Any sixer from Odell, deschutes, lagunitas, SN, Stone, local breweries have crept to be within a few dollars of regional Giants. So the question is really, what don't I drink when I'm on a budget.

Alcohol sales are allowed at gas stations and grocery stores around here. And it is very common for me to see everyday average folks pick up a six pack of macro junk for $6.99. Yet they vividly complain about local micro prices when they are just a dollar more. I always hear hat craft is more expensive. I guess it technically always is but the gap in six/12 pack forms just isn't there. Beyond those formats, I have yet to find a 18 or 30 pack of craft that creeps close to macro. But that everyday gas station buyer new to find new excuses.

Gosh, I love Odell beer. I'm hoping it makes it's way to TN soon (I doubt it), but my sister in law lives in CO so I get to imbibe a couple times a year. Cheers!

The cheapest beers at my local are (anything from) Genesee, Hamm's (same price at 30 cans for $12.99), and Burger. I feel the Genesee is the best overall but I like to mix it up.

There are a few in the middle like big cans of Molson Ice, but from there, if I'm going to spend some money, it's A-B brands like Shock-Top, Goose Island, and even Beck's ($22.99 for 24/16 oz.), which are always on promo.

At that point, however, the cost gets to the point that I can almost buy something a little more exciting, and it's almost to the point that it doesn't really matter (there's a difference between paying less than .50 for a can of beer and paying $1.00+ or so) so I can choose between Magic Hat, Saranac, most of the Canadian brands, and a few others.

What I end up doing most often is buying the Genesee and then just a 12-pack of something else as if I'm spending less (but I'm not!).

Whoa, no one commenting on him getting a ballast point 12 pack for $12... Is this normal in California??

They are more like 25 here (6 packs are 13-15)... That pricing is crazy.

Yeah, was wondering the same thing. Unless it's the one I've been seeing at Costco w/ Sculpin and other less expensive beers. Think that one's ringing in at around $30 a case in VT so I could see it at $12 a 12 in Cali

I literally sent my gf a snap of the sculpin 12pk @ $27.99 wegmans yesterday morning, because she had just been saying how good, but over priced they are. I want to say the sextant 12pk was $17.99

Did you read the post? He references them in the first two sentences, that they are great to drink, but are top shelf. So what do you drink INSTEAD of those...

I just drink less. I enjoy my TreeHouse & Trillium too much to cut them out. I generally only drink 4 of those beers each week. If I had to really cut down, I'd proabaly just pick up one of the many $9-10 six packs off the shelf.

The sours and Belgians are what are hurting my wallet more recently.

^ this was my first thought.

That being said, I dig most of Sierra Nevada's mixed 12-packs (I'm still sore they changed up last year's summer pack) and they are reasonable at $15.99, although I generally get mine at Meijer when they go on sale for $12.99. There are also plenty of local options that are reasonable.

Honestly I just drink less of the good stuff. If I need to cut back or such I will just get fewer beers but still get good ones. I would rather drink less of a good thing than more of a bad one.

Really not sure your point of this thread when you show all these other beers you have with your Firestone Walker and Ballest Point beers. Looks more like a show-off to me.

To answer the thread though, I can always count on New Glarus being dirt cheap. Central Waters barrel aged beers are also extremely cheap ounce for ounce.

I'm always on a budget, but life's too short to skimp on beer! I do seem to gravitate towards Boulevard a lot though. I can usually grab a sixer for about 8 bucks. Plus they usually have something new to try, and their year-round line is solid.

Founders All Day IPA, about $17 for a 15 pack....Sierra Nevad/Lagunitas/New Belgium all make quality beers at under $10 in my area, and my Total Wine emails out $1 off of a 4/6-pack all of the time. That being said, fortunately I'm at the point in my life, where there really is no beer budget, but it's good to know that good choices exist for those who are
