They were first use barrels when the bourbon was in them. They become second use when the barleywine goes in. It's all semantics. For previous editions it went first use- bourbon, second use-BCBS, third use- barleywine.

A good point. I was just going by the exact verbiage used in the blog post.

It's not third use because BCBS used barrels were possibly infected last year.

Infection talk about BCBS regular didn't start until around April 2016 (according to the thread).

If 2016 BCBBW isn't aged in 2015 BCBS barrels, does that imply that BCBBW is only aged for 3-5 months in barrels? Or that GI knew about this issue WAYYYYYYY before that? Something else possibly?

I've been told (by a distributor) that the Bourbon County line will be much more limited this year, as in, it won't be available in nearly as many states as the past few years. It seem the south-east is getting left out entirely, and I'm sure there will be other states affected as well.

This should make things slightly easier for a lot of the people that have vowed to never purchase Goose Island beer again.

    Agreed.

Different, yes. Awesome, I don't know. I'm sure it will be very good, because the 3rd use barrels alone aren't going to turn a bad beer into a good one. But it really does remove what made BCBBW unique. If I see it, I will buy it, but there is probably a less than 5% chance that I will try to trade for it if I miss out, like I have in past years.

Wonder if Philly is going to get a bump in supply with the announcement that a GI Brewpub is going in there.

lol! Especially considering the region that was hardest hit by the infections would be the one getting cut off. Double burn.

I hope that just means more limited from a distribution-standpoint (perhaps to help with quality control issues); it'd be a shame if the first year in many that BCS could potentially not be a pain in the ass to obtain ended up being just as difficult because production dropped off again.

Shouldn't all the quality control issues be fixed by the flash pasteurization?

It's definitely possible they intend to flood a smaller number of states. Only time will tell.

In other news, another possible link in the daisy-chain from last year, you can actually buy BCBS '15 online now :grimacing:

Notice how it's not sold out, but this year's Helldorado is!

It would be nice if they specified whether this was within the infected dates or not. Also, GI take note of how this is going for more than the $15 MSRP you refunded people for.

are we actually bitching about 99 cents? GI is also not responsible for markups over MSRP.

And that is what they claim about MSRP, up until they increased the Prop refund because no one purchased it at the unrealistic MSRP they put out.

$15 a bottle seems pretty generous considering the msrp was $10

I'll seek them out, but I feel like my desire to hunt isn't quite as strong as last year with Rare and the assumption half my beer wasn't infected. I wonder if the lines shorten this year as a result?

That said I'm excited for the Prop in scotch barrels, to my knowledge it's completely different than previous editions which have focused on combinations of flavors.
