2016 Surly Darkness

surly's darkness page now says no earlier than 3:30

 

Surly BA Darkness won the gold medal over 130 other BA Strong Stout beers at The Great American Beer Festival this weekend. Congrats Surly.

 

About the same last year. It looked like the line moved a bit faster due to better organization by those directing traffic, but still turtle-slow.

 

Which year of BA darkness won the gold? 2015 or 2016?

Anyone happen to know about what time the closer parking and not Caribu parking lot parking fills up typically? I was there about 7:30-8 last year and walking across with stuff sucks would like to get in closer this year was hoping maybe 5-5:30

 

I got there around 5 last year and I got a spot in the last lot by the brewery.

 

Does anyone know whether any of the Darkness Day Eve kegs at Stub & Herbs ever last until Saturday?

If you can't get there right away, it's actually not a bad strategy to hit at 5-5:30. There are usually some lots they don't open until 5 due to the businesses there.

 

Sooo... is it Friday yet? Why is this week going so goddamn slow!

Unexpected DBZ reference of the day.

 

I figued that might be the case I am gonna try to hit at 5-5:30 don't want to hit right at 3:30 but going to try to park closer this year.

Any recommendations on the Twin Cities liquor stores most likely to have Darkness for sale on Saturday?

 

None. It's release at Darkness days Saturday. I'm not positive, but pretty sure it won't be out until Monday. Just follow the trucks like everyone else...

 

No stores will have Darkness on Saturday. Many/most of them will on Monday.

 

The past 4 years I've parked at the church lot immediately east of the brewery (I forget the name). My car has always been the only one in that lot, and it's definitely closer than Caribou.

That said, they might have parking restrictions posted. I don't remember for sure. But I can tell you that it has never been an issue since the place is vacant Friday night / Saturday.

 

Can you please specify the directions a bit better of where said church is? Do you mean south? Directly east of the brewery is a lake and some railroad tracks. Thrown in the stage and fencing in that area, coming in from the east doesn't seem real feasible and I can't seem to find any churches around there either.
