Not sure if this is the place to do this but I had a great transaction with averagjoe3 http://beeradvocate.com/community/members/averagjoe3.684242/
I sent him a Pliny the Elder for a Heady Topper straight up and we communicated over regular email after starting the conversation on the board. We both agreed to send on the same day to arrive the next day and we both provided FedEx tracking #s. Everything arrived on time as planned. Just a great transaction all-around and definitely someone you can trust.
is it just me or is it bad news when trader shout out threads have come to people just doing what they say that they will do? not knocking the OP or the trader, but isn't that expected and what trading refs are for?
Sorry if I am raining on your parade but you made a trade for one bottle/one can? How much were the shipping costs? Also, feel free to ridicule me if I read/interpreted that wrong.
Pliny is 16.9 oz bottle and a Heady is a 16 oz can. So from that perspective it's basically an equal amount of beer being traded. Also, both of these are considered top notch DIPA and priced similarly. Does that answer your question?
Heady is only $3a can if you buy a 4 pack and $3.75 a single I believe and you got ripped off paying 10 for a pliny.
Good traders are good at trading. While this was a story not involving a DQ and a rare as extras, he was impressed with his trading partner and wanted to share the love. You don't need monster trades to be a good trader. I get your point though, no beer ****! I was beyond stoked this whole trading thing actually worked my first time or 2 as well. Op and his partner, and cosmicevan, cheers!
trading ref = trading reference many folks use their profile on BA to list trading references or to link to an external list of references of people who can vouch for their honesty and trade-worthiness. you can access the profile by clicking on the linked user name and clicking the "Profile Page" link. Most people list this on the information tab of their profile. check out alewatcher's new trader blog...this and many other important and useful tips can be found there. also, as others mentioned in this thread...$10 for a bottle of pliny is pretty outrageous, i get them shipped to NY from online retailers for less/bottle. $10 for heady topper is bar prices, but ultimately if both parties are happy with the trade, then it is fair...heady and pliny tend to be $4$ type trading beers though so this swap was a bit one-sided. typically great trader shout out threads are used for when you open a box and need to change your pants as a result of the excitement at seeing the contents within. these threads are usually reserved for people who knocked your socks off or just did some random act of kindness...basically a true advocate of beer and generosity. just going above and beyond, search the forum and you'll see plenty of examples of why people start these threads. if you make a trade with someone, it is expected that they will fulfill their end of the bargain...they will send what was agreed upon and will ship on the agreed upon date...and communication will be honest and open. welcome to the wonderful world of trading.
While I get what you're saying, I have zero problem at all seeing someone post about a positive trading experience just from a trade going exactly as planned. Perhaps if more people posted about all the great/timely traders they've encountered, we wouldn't have so much goddamn negativity in this forum.
agreed and not knocking the OP. however i would hate for the real great trader shout outs (and even bad trader mentions) to get lost in a sea of postings about people who simply did what they said. it is sort of expected and what references are for. Frank (lurchingbeast) really hit the nail on the head about the need for a feedback system.
