Backwoods Bastard 2016

There was a day a few years ago where it was just put on the shelf , and it sat for a bit, the same with Kbs. A long time ago I remember seeing Kbs on the shelf by the bottle for $5-6 , and I said I'd never pay that and passed it by. Now I'd clean the shelf if I could.

 

We don't usually see it in New Jersey until November.

Not sure where you are located but Meijer is a good place to look for this.

 

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought Meijer was hit and miss with the specialty beer but maybe that has changed??? I would certainly like to purchase BB from Meijer as they always have the lowest beer prices. Thanks again.

 

Yeah Meijer is now pretty much my go to spot for most craft beer these days. Like you said, they have the best prices, and their selections (at least at the one I shop at) are always top notch.

 

I've been hearing about those Michigan Meijer stores for awhile - pretty nice. The ones in IL have a decent selection, and did have Bourbon County regular last year, but I will be surprised if Backwoods makes an appearance.

 

I work at Meijer and its nice at times being able to grab stuff on my out....Problem with the ones in Kazoo area is they don't seem to get the seasonal releases of a lot of the Michigan Brewerys...So far they haven't had any of the Founders or Shorts seasonals.... Meijer tends to be really stricked as far as bringing in random products....It all has to go through corporate first....But hopefully some of these hit the meijers here....be nice to pick it up on my out.

 

Surprising that a corporate giant like Meijer isn't more consistent. That's why I threw in the disclaimer that it depends on where you are at. BCBS at Meijer in IL? That's where I want to live. The Meijer's around me don't get a lot of rare things, but Backwoods is one of them. Also a good place to look for Hop Slam. I've seen a lot of the planets there also. I saw first hand two years ago a Meijer in Ann Arbor area had to have near a pallets worth of Backwoods....it filled an entire end cap and lasted quite some time on the floor. Last year it seemed to be more plentiful all around....hoping the same this year.

 

It's kind of hit or miss. Stores can vary quite a bit in their selection & pricing. The Holland stores didn't get the really limited stuff (KBS, Devil Dancer, Backstage beers), but Backwoods was on the shelf for at least a couple months last year. Northside Holland had a slightly more limited selection but was generally $1-2 cheaper than the Southside store. IIRC, Jenison & Grand Haven didn't have a huge selection. In GR, the store at knapp's corner had a pretty large craft section.

 

How 'bout some Wisconsin sightings? Madison in particular..

 

Meijer here has an okay beer selection for a grocery store, but doesn't get BCBS, KBS, or BB that I've seen. And I've certainly tried. Schnucks by far has the best beer selection for chain grocery stores down here. I'm excited for BB and hope it shows up sooner than later downstate in IL. Have a few bottles from last year and am looking forward to a little vertical of it and throwing in this year's CW BBSA. Typically it shows up the first weekend in Nov. here.

 

I've been to every Meijer in the chain, all 230 of them and the selection really varies, mostly based on size of the department. They are slowly converting some to larger sections but it is slow and selective. Their flag ship stores and often ones near colleges (like Okemos) have the best selection. Really disappointed in the new Wisonsin stores, their selection is terrible. If there are any yoopers in the house, you're getting two stores next year.
