Headed to town Friday and will be solo for dinner Friday and Saturday. Looking for a cool place to eat decent food with a good, local taplist and cool atmosphere. I plan to hit Jester King Saturday afternoon, so would prefer to not eat at a brewery or brewpub for dinner. Location NW if possible, but really anything North of campus is good. I went to school at UT in the 80s and 90s, so I can find my way around town.

    Thx!

Go to Odd Duck. It's south, but worth the hike!

Hopfields and Via 313 pizza are next to each other near campus. Barleyswine for a pricier meal on Burnet Rd. Michi Ramen on North Lamar (one of the best curated small tap lists in town). East Side King Thai Kuhn at The Domain has some decent beer on tap.

The Oasis out by the lake on 620 is really nice. I know you said no breweries, but this is basically a really nice restaurant that just happens to make beer. A lot of people don't even know these guys brew, they just think it's really tasty food with probably the best view in Austin.

This is literally the first nice thing I've heard about The Oasis restaurant. Oasis Brewing is (afaik) unaffiliated, though they do now serve food (they used to have food trucks).

Oasis Restaurant =/= Oasis Brewing. They may be in the same building, share the same Oasis name, but the restaurant has nothing to do with the brewery. Hell, they do not even sell their beer at the restaurant.

And the restaurant is terrible for food. Like, really not good. And not cheap for crap food.

The brewery? Has great beer, great views, and good prices. And occasionally food.

Depends on how much you are wanting to spend. You said no brewpubs, but I am just going to ignore that since I find that qualification a pointless one.

Pinthouse Pizza. It is 100% a brewery. It also has 40 or so other taps. And solid pizza for the price. Their IPAs and barrel aged stuff are top notch. If you really do not want a brewery, then:

    Hopfields
Craft Pride + Via 313 (bar + foodtruck)
    Bangers
    Waller Creek

I guess that's my bad, just always assumed that same building same name meant some affiliation. Regardless, good beer and i personally like the food.

I just wanted to follow up on this since I'm the one who asked. I flew in and stopped at Live Oak out by the airport for a Hefeweizen. As expected, it was awesome and a great spot to enjoy the beer. Had dinner Friday night at Hopfields. Great recommendation! The vibe and food were both excellent, and the tap list was great as well. Walked over to Growler Stop after dinner for a Vietnamese Speedway Stout which did not disappoint.

Saturday evening, I made a quick stop by Pint House Pizza's South Lamar location. They had Vietnamese Speedway on tap as well, so I had another. Much cheaper and just as fantastic as the night before. aschwab I see what you mean about brewpubs being included. Most I have been to here in Ohio serve only their own beer, but Pint House (and I'm guessing others) had a huge local tap list in addition to the stuff they make.

Overall it was a great visit. Thanks for all the tips.

If you Austinites are looking for good entertainment, go see "Priscilla" at Zach Theater. My daughter is working backstage and it is a great show. Runs through October.
