I'm really enjoying a normal OV now and definitely won't be trading any of the beers away.

I've also got some old cans from the first OV canning that I will compare this too soon.

Heading to TH this Friday to eat at the cafe. Not traveling with the goal of grabbing any packaged beer necessarily, but does anybody expect that they might be doing a canning of anything this week? Or is it likely that Only Void this weekend essentially replaced the "normal" can sale for this week? It seems like the less-special cans sometimes end up lasting to Friday, so I was hoping I'd at least have a shot of grabbing cans of something when I visit.

They will probably still do a can release this week. They did a special Sunday can release for the anniversary party and still did a release the following week. As far as I can remember they haven't missed a week.

While its likely they will still do a can release, pretty unlikely cans will be available on Friday. Now if its a Thursday release, could cans be available when they open at noon on Friday? Perhaps, but they wont be sticking around long. You can always get some growlers filled if you're looking to take some home.

Just FYI for the next time, after getting the cans the Ferm was a complete madhouse with an hour late for lunch but we walked into the Cafe and there were tons of open tables and I got a pour of the Bourbon and placed an order for food in like a minute. I think the insane growler line made people think that was to sit down as well and scared them off.

Second, this is more of a different thread but someone really needs to write the definitive article on the trading culture - the specific fact that people will get something just to trade it without trying it is crazy. What is the final "goal" of the trader? I admit I dabble in it to try stuff from New England I've never had but I don't go deep into the "currency system" of it where you trade one thing for another and then trade it up for...what? Are people making money off of this? Is it just a cultural currency? If it is that's really fascinating but boy is it a lot of work...

For some of the offers I have gotten to mule, yes, people are making money off of this. Not enough to like turn it into a full time job but I have gotten offers of double the price, or allotment price plus 50 bucks etc etc. I love trading for the random things that I have not had but will only do so in person and it's generally just can for can or bottle for bottle, not trying to make a profit off of a brewery or buy beer just to trade away but if person x can go to a brewery release and person y can go to another then I am all about meeting up and sharing.

My thing right now is that I am in agreement with the post a few back which is that it seems like every release the big three just distract from the actual beer: 1. Lines and/or chairs, 2. Price, 3. Trading/muling. What did we even talk about before canning lol (part of me is serious because even though I have been a member for awhile I only recently really got into the forums section of this site).

I sorta wish I had gotten to order all three OV variants at the Ferm and had them side by side. I also am curious to hear reports of how the fresh regular OV tastes next to the ones canned in February.

I think the "trade for profit" mentality is unfortunate. It's exactly the same as the dealings I had back in school with rare trading cards. There's some personality type that really loves to make a profit or come out ahead on a deal and I see it with beer the same way I saw it back in school but now the people are adults.

I enjoy occasional trades because it's the only way to get some beers without traveling but I prefer to trade things of equal value. To me, it's not worth the effort of spending additional time online hunting for people to trade with at a small profit. These traders enjoy trading/bartering more than the rest of us and there's nothing to do except hope breweries keep allotments low and keep people honest.

Tired Hands could have prefilled growlers yesterday but overall I think they did a great job with small allotments, security calling out line-cutters (thank you!), and calling out people that tried to go through the line twice. Supposedly someone got banned for life? That was the rumor at least and it sounds like good news.

I got there at like 11:45, skipped the can line and had some food and beers (bourbon void was delicious). Saw that the line was pretty empty and was able to get cans and bottles. The growler line was nuts yesterday and didn't bother with it. I really liked the low allotments and thought it was really well run. Growlers could have been a little more efficient though.

Anyone know if they still have BBOV on draft at the Ferm today? Thinking of taking a ride down there.

Funny you brought this up lol my dad was at the ferm today and got a growler of Bourbon Only Void, halfway home the growler exploded in his truck. So that problem hasn't vanished either I guess

some of my thoughts/rants on the topic

    - not to sound like a dick, but I never thought it'd be necessary to arrive hours early with all those allotments so [since my schedule allowed for it] I rolled up around 1'ish and breezed in/out with all my beer and a short wait. For future ref, they have never sold 650+ allotments of a beer before it could be purchased with little to no wait.
    - Allotments for beers like these... love em. Keep em small and let more people get a taste.
    - BA OV... TH specifically stated they would not sell out of this beer quickly and there was plenty to go around. Still, people raced to get in line then complained about having to wait hours, and about not pre-filling growlers or running it thru more tap lines. Seems obvious they didn't need to do that because there was plenty to go around if you could wait until after the mad rush died down. I bet it stays on tap all week.
*Yes I acknowledge that not everyone could wait, and some folks had to get this all done at once, but overall the multi-hour wait for growlers was unnecessary for many people.
    - Chairs... I generally show up around 3pm every wednesday and do work from my chair because I need to be on the road for my other job by 5:15. I am in my chair 85% of those 2 hours and could care less if my neighbors want to spend their time inside drinking, or any where else for that matter. IF i was truly THAT mad about it, i'd either move people's chairs out of the line or i'd stop going. Ultimately, id either take action or stop complaining. If Tired Hands doesn't give a sh*t about people holding spots with chairs then you can't either. Obviously they would rather have people inside spending money than sitting outside. Throw a chair in line and go about your business, until TH rules against this practice its fair game.
    - While I am a huge TH fan and will continue to buy their beer. It has become pretty clear to me that they enjoy fanning the flames of long lines & hype. There are steps they could take to probably provide a more enjoyable customer experience, esp for locals, but ultimately they choose to keep things how they are. Case in point, why not bottle that BA OV for the believers club and/or regular sales? Any great reason that the most desirable beer of OV Day was the only one not pre-packaged? Hell they could've bottled half of the 20-30 barrels and left the rest for pours/growlers. People would have paid anything. Do you think anyone preferred a bottle of permashore to a bottle of BA OV? While this route will allow more people to try the beer, it'll also increase it's profits by thousands and thousands of dollars.

    carry on
