Best "Unknown" Beers

The temptress varients from lakewood brewing. Bourbon barrel, mole, and french quarter are all outstanding beers. They also have a sin mint and raspberry but they aren't the best.

Indeed Rum King is a good starting point. World-class beer, IMHO. It's known in Minnesota, but not outside our fair state.

 

How is Backwoods Bastard not in the top 250? It's one of the best beers I've ever had. That's my answer, then.

Eclipse 20 yr Elijah Craig, IMO simple the best BA Stout I've ever had. Tons of raisins and dark fruit in this one. IMO it blows Bcbs and the like out of the water, and I'm very fond of this beer.

 

Probably cause you can typically just walk into a store and buy it without standing in line or buying a lottery ticket

although well known for cask ale fans it's pretty hard to find outwith the birmingham/black country area

 

Neumarkter Lammsbrau Dunkel (Organic) This beer really opens eyes (and minds) in blind tastings.

 

We can all list lots of our local/obscure nano-brewery one off batches that are stellar, but how about beers distributed in some degree that are stellar that are under the radar?

I'd have to go with Wulver Scotch Ale by Thirsty Dog. Would love to do a side by side with the very popular Backwoods Bastard (which I love but everyone goes after).

 

Yeah, Backwoods may not be in the top 250 (doesn't make sense to me either) but its very sought after and well known across the US.

 

Central Waters Bourbon Barrel series; Stout, Cassian Sunset Stout, Cherry Stout, Barleywine, Scotch Ale, and Quad Ale. Excellent and cheap.

 

I will.add odell jolly russian to this. Hands down my favorite new stout for 2016. I wish there were more rum barrel stouts out there.

 

Jesus, I don't recognise most of the beers in the top 10, let alone top 250.

 

A few Canadian ones (including a bunch of Quebec beers that don't have "Péché" in their name).

King Misanthrope from Henniker Brewing.

Zonker Stout (although it is quite a bit more known depending on where you are in the country)

 

Another stout - what happened to Big Bad Baptist? And it ages so well!
