It's possible to have a two bottle membership. Round 4 was the first time for that. And the option to buy an extra bottle, so the potential to have 3 bottles is there.

I'm sure with a spouse or relative you could get more. No indication that the guy ever had these bottles in hand.

Our conversation also included him saying that he was "old school" and didn't update his trades with the new system. When I saw his join date, past "unofficial" trading history, and BIFs, I assumed all was legit. I was sending him Damon and Elab 5 ++ for a DBH so I honestly thought it was a fair deal and didn't consider "value" associated with so many of today's seldom closed trades.

@Dirtinabottle it's not value per se I was enquiring about, just how the $4$ compared. Even among the most generous traders, DBH & BA DL aren't going to go for less than $4$ when trading for hops, including world class hops, unless it involves a RTP or giveaway. It appears that a BA DL & 2 DBHs would retail for more than $100. In a regular trade, no knowledgeable trader is likely to give em up for $100 of hops, however good those hops are.

The bt appears to be a knowledgeable & accomplished thief. He knows which buttons to push, what bait to lay. Bastard.

More importantly, beer is not an illegal product. While it is illegal to ship beer via USPS, it is not illegal to do it via UPS or FedEx. It is against UPS/FedEx policy. I don't think the local police are going to be concerned with that. They might be interested in someone in their jurisdiction who is committing widespread theft through fraud. It just depends on the town.

That's not going to get you anywhere and while I doubt that he actually is a LEO, anyone in IA is gonna have little to know idea what y'all are even talking about. Best to just ban the dude and move on, sucks for those who lost out

Maybe not but then again the fact you refer to knives as "high end collectible cutlery" and beer as "partially fermented sugar water" tells me something. I do see your point though but I think we would both agree this guy is a crook and I am not as worried with his beer collection as I am with his knife collection.

It's so unfortunate to see something like this happen. And regardless of whether or not the trade system was correctly used, this was going to happen with the type of individual involved because he had no intention of sending his end (accepted trade or not). It will undoubtedly make people more hesitant to trade with non-RTPs.

I guess the lesson is to trust non-RTPs even less, and to make sure that with someone with 0 or low number of official trades completed, they send their package first. Once package is received and it checks out, then send out your own.

It's sad when we have to go to those lengths to ensure someone isn't going to screw us over.

can @F2brewers or @dmbforever list the people he has traded with before in his account profile? This is now longer visible bc he was banned but could be useful information for those of us who were burned.

I disagree with this sentiment. Statistically, this occurrence is likely a fractional percentage of the successful trades which occur with new trading partners each week. It's akin to seeing a plane crash in the news and then saying people will fly less because of it.
Even less? I don't necessarily agree with this either, again statistically speaking. IMO it all comes down to folks doing their due diligence with emphasis on the following point which you and others have mentioned

We can certainly agree to disagree, nothing wrong with that. Statistically or not, it doesn't take but for a fraction of the community which are bad apples to make many within the trading community in general more apprehensive about making trades with traders who have 0 or very low count of completed trades.

On a personal level, I tended to be much more trusting when I initially started trading. But as I've read more and more bad trader threads and the manner in which a trade ends up being a bad one, I've primarily (not exclusively) switched to IP and RTP trading at this point. Not saying that's what everyone will do or does, but I think some like myself will and that always ends up hurting the trading community in general.

It sucks when trades go wrong, but there are probably thousands of trades that go perfect that we never see, the bad ones stick out like a sore thumb. I have traded with people with no history, a bit of risk, but worked out fine. Dsho is psychopath, sorry to see people get burned like this. The beer community has some warts, but mostly this is an awesome community.

Again would like to start by saying thanks for all the support. I got started with some great BAs who did not want me to ship first despite my volunteering to. So I had been less hesitant if and only if a trade request was accepted. I just urge people to ask traders with no feedback to ship first. Even if it's under the old system.
