And then it turns out you clicked on a wasp and had to go back to square one...
That captcha was brutal and probably cost me tickets (luckily my buddy got a pair)

God I hate those 'which pics?' captchas. They never seem to load or position properly on a mobile device so you have to sort of chase it around the screen every time you touch it. Just spent the better part of an hour doing the same dance with Ticketmaster for Roger Waters tickets, so my rage is still fresh...

I tried for something like 10-15 minutes selecting the group I was trying to buy. No luck at all. Chose the "best available" option after this and got 2 Group A tickets immediately.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really wish that they would just randomly assign you a variant with your ticket rather than have all of the popular variants on sale and run out during the first two groups. Hell, holding back a number of each variant for each group would be better. But alas . . .

Even though I signed up on "the List" for the Hampton Munster last year, I haven't heard squat from them. When they get around to contacting those on the list, I would not be surprised if the rates are significantly higher than last year. The new Homewood Suites next door is over $390 per night after taxes right now for May 13 weekend.

What is a good alternative? Hampton Schererville or Hampton Hammond? Shuttle to DLD would be nice.

There's this city nearby called Chicago...not a lot of people know about it, but I'd suggest there. While you're not at DLD, there are a couple decent breweries in the area too.

I e-mailed Three Floyds about this last year and they basically said there are a lot of factors they weigh in determining variant distribution and they feel first-come first-serve is the most appropriate.

I would agree, but getting to choose Group A over Group D is certainly not decided by who chooses it first. It's a crapshoot to even get tickets, let alone the tickets for the group that you want. They're not stupid enough to actually believe those first in the digital line get Group A, I'm sure, so I can only assume that they just don't care enough to put a little more effort and simple math into distributing the variants evenly over the groups. If they did that, first come first served would be totally legit since it would be based around who got in line to get their bottles first.

This would create the issue of people lining up ridiculously early to be in the front of the line for their group. It would cause a cluster of people and people likely wouldn't spend as much money on merch/other beer. People line up for beers like bcbs hours before the release. Imagine what that would look like for something like BVDL.

Easiest thing to do would be to just give everyone a four pack containing one regular Dark Lord, one Vanilla Dark Lord, one Bourbon Dark Lord and one cherry dark lord. End of complaints.

Not to mention, the group A line before the gates opened was filled with non group As and they took so long getting in some group B people that lined up on the other side of the fest managed to get into the bottle line first and managed to get an MMHJ or FVM before some group As were able to even enter the grounds.

I don't know that I'd go quite that far. That would require them drastically increasing barrel-aging and would likely cost us significantly more.

I do think they should do way more of the "normal" variants though. I had no idea what Pineau Charentes was before they announced the variants. Aquavit isn't any better, or anything with Cardamom or Coriander.

Yup, this was my issue. Hopefully they've got it figured out for this coming year.

You might want to get a beer to rinse that bitter taste out of your mouth, Maybe some new panties too as I think yours are a little snug,

I was actually one of the people that got into the grounds early because I was not group A, so my main complaint was with being blue in the face cold and sopping wet.

Thanks for your concerned, catty hangover post though.

Damn was looking forward to trying to go again this year. Don't think i can swing it on mothers day weekend, kind of a poor date choice in my opinion

To put this in perspective, just think of the smile on mom's face when you hand her that bottle of Marshmallow Handjee on her special day.

I think they added the extra two weeks this year so they could hire the rocket scientists necessary to figure out how to get Group A (and only Group A) into the Group A line...

I like to think that my email to them earlier this year prompted them to start brainstorming super early ("oh shit, that alien-faced dude on BA just emailed us!"), so those extra two weeks will really make this (coming) year's DL smooth as butter!
