Even though they will start distro here, I'll still take the trek to Somerset. Yes, I'm excited.

    Per their Facebook page:

oliphant brewing will be self-distributing to minnesota in november!

we will be the first brewery to self-distribute into minnesota from another state and we promise to be haggard, exhausted, and happy to deliver you beer ourselves.

    see you soon, neighbors!

Isn't it illegal for out of state breweries to self-distribute into Minnesota?

    As far as I know.

They must have found a way around it.

Or they're ill-informed, and about to walk into a big failure. Every distributor in the state will be reporting them once their beers show up on shelves and tap lines.

One weird trick to self-distribute in Minnesota. Distributors hate them!

Haven't tried them yet. But can they tone down their beer names a little bit to something less........ annoying?

When I was there last month, I was told of their plans of being able to distribute here in MN. It sounded like they had been working on it for a while, so I'd wager that what @JakeJohnson said is correct.

Well, I wouldn't count on it. They've had somewhat off the wall names right from the start.

If you do a lot of drugs the beer names sound a lot better....man

Agreed. Usually I'm turned off by breweries naming their beers using immature references to sexual acts. Oliphant's names are just stupid.

Lighten up, guys. Some of them are real gems. They have 3 beer names (at least) that are Arrested Development references. That already makes them winners in my book. Ron Paul's Drag Race is a pretty good one, too. What is wrong with having a little fun with your product? Gives them a little bit of brand identity as well. Not such a terrible idea in an already incredibly crowded market. As much as we all would like, every beer can't be called Saga.

100% agree! I love their bizarre names and the artwork that goes along with them in the tap-room. Their Ween references (among other awesome ones) are the best.

I'm out of the loop on so many things I wouldn't get the references anyway.

I just don't want to decode weird references to know what kind of beer I'm getting.

If they ever have a Die Hard (1 or 3) reference, I think I would instantly drive to their place and enjoy the hell out it though.

I'm done being cranky..... for now anyways.....:sunglasses:

Very well said. These are my thoughts exactly. I wrote up a couple responses to our call out, but deleted them after deeming them to hipster sounding.

In the end, all I want in a beer name is information about what the beer is like. I don't need the name to be cute.

They should be more like Surly. When I order a Todd The Axe Man, I know it will taste like a mouthful of Todd.

FWIW, under their "wacky" name on the label, it says what style of beer it is. Big fan of this place and their beer.

You, sir, have a much closer relationship with Todd than I ever hope to have.

Their tap menu and cans all include both the colorful names as well as style descriptors, so who cares if they want to have some fun with the stuff? It's just beer, after all. They make great beer and put forth their personality and identity, I say cheers to that!
