Just wondering if anyone else out there has drank a Misnamed Beer? For example yesterday went to a Local Yokel Bar and tried an IPA named Head Trauma from Angry Hanks Brewery here in Billings, Mt . With a name like that I was expecting something along the lines of at least 90 IBUS and a High ABV Level. Turned out to be 40 IBUs and 6.0 ABV. Was drinkable but a bit of a disappointment . Anyone else experienced this?

All the beers that look like SunnyDelite, yet are called IPAs fit this category for me.

There is nothing inherently wrong with an IPA at 6%.

True nothing wrong with an IPA at 6% it just wasn't aptly named in my opinion.

Fair enough. Instead of "Head Trauma", maybe it should have been named "A Bit of a Nagging Headache"

Oh, and New Belgium Salted Caramel Brownie. No salt, no caramel, no brownie. (A solid brown ale, though)

A lot of the imitators of NE IPAs using "juicy" when they come nowhere close to being good interpretations of the style and are a far cry from juicy, like Maplewood Juice Pants for instance.

Many American "pilsners," which end up being absurdly highly-hopped beers that just happen to use lager yeast and sometimes don't even use noble hops, like Half Acre Pony, Revolution Pils, Surly Pils, etc.

Well, I don't think my Palate has ever been Wrecked or even Shifted by those namesake brews, but they are pretty damn tasty nonetheless .

Orkney Skull Splitter. I was expecting a really strong, intense, full-bodied beer, especially at 8.5%. Turned out to be very smooth, mild, and easy to drink. Best damn Wee Heavy I've ever had.

Big Wood Brewery Morning Wood. It's decent but not as solid as the name implies!

Emphasis mine above. Watch out. That's why it's appropriately named.

First time I encountered Skull Splitter was before I got into craft and did not drink much - had three with supper. Luckily was on foot, and only a couple of blocks from the hotel. They do go down waaaayyyy too easy.

I know it's intentional and supposed to be sarcastic but Weyerbacher Tiny comes to mind.

I had a bottle of Sam Adams Triple Bock that should have just been called Kikkoman...

But Wee Heavy itself is wrongly used. It referred to Fowler's Twelve Guinea Ale when sold in tiny bottles. Wee is a Scots word meaning small. The beer was simply a Heavy or Strong Ale.A pint would be a Large Heavy.
