Boston Beer Co. rebranding or just due for something new in its signage?

Gone is the iconic image of Sam holding up a frothy mug in the universal "cheers" salute. As far back as I can recall that's been the mainstay of the Sam Adams packaging.

    Now this:

That's a twelver. The bottles have a new look as well but I didn't snap a pic of them.

While I was in the store I happened upon the Winter Classics lineup:

The bottles look very similar to that package. As for the winter seasonal though, cooo to see a ginger beer in there.

Is it just me or does anyone else detect a bit of the "Hamilton" influence here?

Not the worst design I've seen but I miss those retro labels they had a while ago....kinda wish they just stuck with those (the classic look, minus the "25th anniversary" stuff obviously)

EDIT: and bring back those old Long Trail labels while your at it.....

    Quote from Jim:

“The new look reflects a bold, authentic, patriotic version of Samuel Adams and a return to our roots and to the spirit of Samuel Adams, the great Revolutionary patriot. As you’ll see, we’ve prominently displayed an image of the iconic statue of Samuel Adams at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall, which is located just down the road. To us, the star represents colonial America, and we positioned our perfect pint glass in the center to reflect that we’re putting great beer at the heart of America.

I’m proud to say that for over 32 years we’ve remained an independent craft brewer, continued to push boundaries, and encouraged others to pursue their passions. We’ve always approached our brewing with a bold and fearless creativity and this new packaging reflects just that.”

The "Brewer * Patriot" bit is a bit corny imo (I'm buying a f&#kin beer not doing the Freedom Trail here) but everything else on the packaging looks sharp to me. Overall a nice update imo.

Beer sales are down for Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams).

It appears to me that they are taking something from the BMC playbook and changing some looks to stimulate sales. I don't doubt that this will create a bit of an uptick in sales but only for a short duration. They will then need to do another packaging change (e.g., can you see Sam's head turn blue when the beer is cold?) to again obtain an uptick and perhaps after that re-brand the beer as United States?

Oh, and then maybe a reverse vortex bottle design?:astonished:

    Cheers!

Looks like they submitted a number of different updated SABL labels this year to the TTB:

Although they've constantly "tweaked" the design over the years, as a simply Google Images search will show.

Sam Adams is now an avatar of Jim Koch, looking down sternly as he scolds you for not drinking his beer.

Utopias shooters. How's that for a new packaging design?

I will buy more beer from SA less from the new branding, as much as the nice selection in the winter 12-pack.

new packaging looks real good. changes of packaging dont make me buy beer i dont normally buy though. The only time a change of packaging leads me to directly buying a beer is if its an IPA I like and the new packaging is a sign of fresher beer

Is it a big deal that Boston Lager is now listed as 5.0% ABV? Would this represent a significant change to the recipe to boost it from its longtime 4.9% ABV?

    Why no Holiday Porter?

Sorry, a White IPA is not a winter beer.

No. That size difference is well within the limits of an unchanged recipe given that any beer is made from agricultural ingredients which can have some variability from place to place and year to year.

If you drink a dozen and a half in a session, then maybe.
