Visiting Portland from Atlanta and looking for a couple good shops to bring some beer home. The reviews on here are old and very mixed. Any recommendations for best shop to visit? Or should I just go by the breweries themselves?

Bier Cellar. Sign up for their email newsletter, as they allow online holds of a lot of good stuff.

Definitely Bier Cellar, Greg and those guys are killing it and check their instagram for new stuff. They should have all the locals in Maine and sometimes Bissell Brothers but usually sells out within an hour or so, from what I heard.

The Craft beer cellar is right down the street from the bier cellar too.

Bier Cellar is the best shop. Buuuut I'm always looking mostly for Bissell Bros stuff, and have better luck just going to the brewery for that. Depends what you are looking for in particular, I guess.

Thanks for the recommendations. I went to Bier cellar and Bissell bros and was in and out in a total of 30 mins. Nice selection of IPA's and sours at Bier cellar.

RSVP, a couple miles down Forest Ave down the street from Bier Cellar is also worth hitting on the way to Allagash, Foundation and Austin Street. And if you're on Route 1 in Scarborough, Oakhill Beverage is the place to go.

I second RSVP a bit more low key and they don't sell out as fast. The hoof hearted they got this last week is still there and it's great

My only issue with RSVP is if you are 25 and under with an out of state license they will refuse to sell to you

That's not 100 percent true. I have a friend who went there and he showed another form of ID and they allowed it

Interesting. I had an old ID, two different college IDs, and a wallet full of various cards with my name on it and was denied. It must depend on the manager

That's insane it's almost like they don't want business. If you run into that issue again I'm right by there and I won't mind picking whatever up for you for cost because that's unreal.
