For anyone else that might stumble upon this with my same question. After 24 hours in 5 gal. of 1.054 wort there was no activity. I worried, as I've never seen zero activity at this point. (only been doing less about 9 months) At the 36 hr. mark there was a very small krausen. At the 48 hour mark the whole carboy turned a blonde color from there being so much yeast in suspension.

Sorry to hear Brew_Betty isn't around. Good some good feedback and insight on in the past.

In regards to @Brew_Betty disappearance, the forum is a lot less active than it once was in general, and since she had an antagonistic approach to begin with, and folks both on the internet and in real life don't take kindly to that, not a surprise that she left.

I haven't been on BA as long as many, but BrewBetty frequently had comments well worth some attention. I thought she was also pretty entertaining, but to each his own.

One thing for sure…that character knows a few things about brewing beer.

I always enjoyed our arguments, which were usually more in jest than serious. He/she/it does know their stuff.

I'm glad other forum members have a similar perspective, as mine. It was entertaining to sit back and watch her borderline passive aggressiveness crescendo to humorous condescension. And I certainly learned a lot from her. I only regret that she ruined Deschutes Fresh Squeezed for me, mentioning the overpowering crystal. Next time I had it, that's all I tasted...like a faint beep that, once pointed out, never ceases.

If I recall, it seemed like her disappearance happened not too long after the Averagely Perfect NEIPA began. Betty was being...Betty...and it certainly wasn't her first time poking fun at the polling idea, the process, the naming convention, etc. So she and VikeMan had a brief back and forth and "that was that." No long after, she was nowhere to be found.

Yeah, funny as hell when she discribed a certain ingredients scent as under boob sweat. Super funny!

    Hope she comes back.

I've been lurking around this forum since 2004 (sometimes with great frequency, sometimes with months passing between visits). Few people have seemed as *intentionally* abrasive as Betty - especially given her short tenure here. That's not to say she didn't have valid knowledge and/or opinions to share - but often came across as prematurely condescending and/or expressing almost bullish resistance to admitting she might actually NOT know everything about everything brewing-related.

But then... it's the internet. Every forum on any subject has a 'Betty'. Usually, the good contributions outweigh the quirks of personality - and so her disappearance is something of a loss of both entertainment value and quality of content.

Watch. Give her time, and she'll probably resurface and criticize my opinion on this very subject.

Like any good story or movie, you need a protagonist. Without one you have the mundane. I always appreciate a Betty. I hope she resurfaces and brings some life back into this forum.
