Every three months or 3,000 miles…

 

A another nice vintage Pilsner Urquell can. I was a bit confused about the Hungarian text on it (Vilagos Sor means Light beer in Hungarian). I guess this particular design was inspired by an era when the Czech territories belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

 

The three year old gave me the 6:20 wake up call. Guess she had a pressing appointment with the family room couch and some cartoons. I'll settle for some stout and Stephen in the basement.

And if the beer don't work, some Ministry is always a good eye opener.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Not sure what I am going to do today just yet, but it looks like the weather will be nice. Might take a bike ride.

Beer this morning:

My go-to English styled American porter. Big robust flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, and light coffee/nuttiness; with restrained plum/apple English yeast fruitiness and light-moderate herbal hops. Balanced herbal/roast bitter finish; with an awesome creamy/silky mouthfeel. An all around incredible beer every single time. Almost killed another 6 pack again. I should always have this around.


Way more hazy than last year due to being unfiltered, just as mind blowing! Flavors of huge grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, tangerine, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, and pine hops; with some light honey, wheat, bready malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced grainy malt and sticky/resins in the mouthfeel. Crisp/dry finish and never astringent on hop resins. Still stands as the best standard IPA I've ever had. Made sure to grab a full pack; will grab another if I need more, and can still find it. Insanely bright and dank across the board. This is the best IPA I’ve ever had, and it still holds that status this year. Mosaic and Equinox hops are my favorite of all time right now.


2014 vintage. Tasting insane as expected, incredibly well balanced and super smooth right now. Flavors of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, coconut, and light chocolate; with moderate raisin, prune, fig, and date dark fruits; with lighter notes of leather/tobacco and herbal/woody spice. Light-moderate herbal hop bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Fairly full bodied with a great creamy/silky mouthfeel; light sticky/chalky roast and a touch of tannic bourbon/oak dryness. Definitely one of my top favorite cellar beers to buy every year, as with most of Founders stuff. I don’t know why I don’t drink this more often. I usually only buy 1-2 4 packs every year, but I could easily get much more if I wanted; availability is much better than KBS every single year lately. This is just as amazing, or even better than KBS; yet KBS continues to get the heavy hype. Oh well. I will try to get another pack soon.


Damn, been 3 years since I last had this; glad it’s a shelf beer now. This is completely world class. Head retention and thick lacing that will last for years on the glass. Flavors of big pineapple, peach, pear, apple, lemon/orange peel, peppercorn, clove, hay, straw, musty funk, and light leather; with some light honey/bready malt balance; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Nice big peppery/spicy yeast finish. Super high crisp/prickly carbonation; with a nearly bone dry finish; with light grainy/creamy malts in the mouthfeel. Refreshing for 8.5%. Tank 7 blows me away every time, this blows me away even more with the added Brett funk. I will be buying this again real soon. Currently writing up a new revisit review.

My closer for the morning is the beer equivalent of comfort food. And hey, it took us til half the first page before somebody posted one of it. Might be a record.

Since the first two videos I posted were 80s alternative bands, might as well stay in the theme. Heard this one on WXRT Thursday morning, had to have been in honor of Cubs' fans.
