This stuff cracks me up! You have people responding, who didn't even read the OP's post and others calling good and benchmark beers mediocre.

Yes, their Cream Ale. Not their lager.

The premise of this thread is so confusingly arbitrary that I want to applaud the OP for being best troll ever!

And what's amazing is that it wasn't meant to be intentional.

Well...as the old saying goes: "...one man's poison is another man's elixer".

The following is definitely not a popular opinion ...but I personally find the New England fad of muddy, orange juice looking beers to be beyond mediocre. But that's (obviously) just me.
It all simply boils down to personal preferences.
Besides which, in the end it's all only beer anyway. people should simply consume whatever they like, and personal opinions (including mine) be damned! :sunglasses:

    For the readily available

    Founders All Day
    Sam Adams Boston Lager
    High Life

I would add on Jack's Abby Hoponius Union for my favorite non-national distribution

    Available most everywhere:
    SN Pale ale
    Anchor Steam
    Lagunitas IPA

All fine beers, nothing I typically stock in my fridge. but if I'm out for dinner and these are available... boom, I'm drinking.

I am familiar with 'Screamers.' Call it an ale if you like but it still has adjuncts.

A lot of Oakham Ales round my way so I often have to settle for their stuff.

I wouldn't necessarily call them mediocre but my standbys when there is nothing special available are:
    Jack's Abby Hoponious Union
    Guinness
    SNPA

Sometimes I need to throw a little highlife in the rotation just to even things out.

    Bass Ale
    Yuengling Lager
Sam Adamas Boston Lager - I feel the need to qualify this because I find Sam Adams Boston Lager to be maddeningly inconsistent when it's " on " it's a damn good beer. I find a lot of variation to this beer whether it be on draft or in bottles and that inconsistency is frustrating because I know what it is when it's at its ",peak"

    Goose IPA
    Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat
    Most Samuel Adams beers

These are easy to find at restaurants that have good food but weak beer selections. None of them are amazing, but they're all drinkable.
