Couple of curious turns for Surly, but I guess time will tell how this will play out.

Surly/Lenie's collab would be my guess.

Let the SABMiller sell out rumors begin!

Will do. Kind of coincidental that Todd's departure was last week.

Wikipedia (they're always correct, right?) lists SABMiller as the owner of Leinies. Perhaps it's out of date due to finagling of the ABInbev/SAB merger. Either way, insert corporate brand X into the rumor mill.

ABInbev was required to divest MillerCoors as part of the US gov't approval of the deal.

IDK whether everything has closed yet, but MillerCoors will end up being wholly owned by Molson Coors.

It is noteworthy that Todd refused to be associated with sell-out breweries. He had planned on making a pumpkin beer and going to Elysian's pumpkin beer fest, but backed out once they were bought by ABInBev. Even a collaboration with Leinenkugel's would have been shocking during the Haug dynasty.

Contracting brewing. You heard it here.

Swing and a miss. I don't think a brewery with two brewing locations and in the midst of expanding their fermentation tank capacity is looking to contract out.

That's different than contracting brewing. It's a bug that Omar has not had for a long time.

I won't complain if Leini (aka Miller) buys Surly, as long as the quality doesn't change (my guess is it wouldn't). If it makes their beers available down here, I will be nothing but happy.

As of today Minnesota beer laws state breweries over the size of 300,000 barrels may not be permitted to purchase a bar/restruant/taproom. I am under the impression the taproom will have to close in order for a brewery over the size of 300,000 can purchase Surly brewery. It's going to be interesting to see how the deal gets around Minnesota state law.

I don't know how it works. I'm pretty sure Starkeller is a wholly owned subsidiary of Schell's and they can have an independent taproom. Schell's isn't over 300,000 BBL yet, but they are getting around the single taproom law.

Summer Shandy Furious got the win ha! Maybe they are contracting Leinie to fix Xtra Citra next year by putting summer Shandy in the cans instead.

Perhaps between them they could devise a uni-seasonal Shandy that blurs the lines between sweetish/dry and mildly bitingly bitter?
