Abraxas in Chicago

Well, Madison is sort of northwest of Chicago which is what I meant.

Are you there now or just speculating? I'm planning to head over in a bit, but might skip out if it's a shit show.

 

Binnys LP has quite a few people. Snaked out of the champagne room for those familiar. Maybe they have a ton of bottles and everyone will be happy. Who knows.

 

I walked in and it didn't look that bad and I wandered around the beer area a bit. Just realized my error.

 

If you think BA causes that, you're wrong.

 

Beer temple was 2 per last year, and it lasted over a full day.

Calm down. If you want a bottle you should be able to get one.

 

Quite a line, but I just heard them say everyone here is getting a bottle.

 

Line is pretty much to the entrance and they counted off customers saying they still had enough for everyone.

 

I was there last year and it was one per person. I also thought it all sold out that night but I'm less sure about that.

 

These releases are getting tricky to predict. Last year's Beer Temple Abraxas release had a similar online presence leading up to it, and bottles lasted a while through the night without big lines. Today, I was absolutely stunned to see that line snake all the way to the entrance at 6pm. This isn't even THAT notable of a beer (it's not barrel-aged!).

My initial prediction for Black Friday was that it was going to be much milder compared to last year, but after today, I'm not so sure anymore...

 

Craft beer scene is only getting crazier. I expect well over a thousand people lined up at LP Binny's at opening on Black Friday.

 

What was the point of this post? If you got there at 5:00 you would have been really close to the front of the line.

 

It was crowded, but I got through. I wouldn't do this for every release, but it's not that hard for me to go right after work and wait. If I try to track stuff down in the burbs, I frequently end up missing it.

 

I think you're both correct. It was 1/person and it lasted awhile. Not sure if it was gone that night, but I remember someone coming in the store while the line was getting smaller, asked what it was for and ended up buying a bottle.

 

I wonder how much Abraxas is left around suburbs.

 

Drink it fresh! Had pours of '14 and '16 tonight at Binny's. '14 was boozy and hot, '16 was sweet but delicious.

 

I haven't seen Abraxas in the suburbs yet. Guessing that it will show up more places tomorrow and Thursday.

I got there at around 5 and was probably 30-35 in line. Nice and easy and enjoyed the 2014 and 16 4 oz pours. Looking forward to trying variants on draft later on this week and next week
