It's pretty easy to spot the use of frosted glassware when one first enters a bar, sits down and waits for the bartender to order. Even if you don't notice other people's frozen glasses before you order your beer, seeing the bartender reach into a refrigerated unit for a glass gives you one last chance to prevent it ---
"Uh, can I get that in a room temperature glass?"

It's not the water, or condensation, that ruins the beer. Without getting too technical and becoming a chemist here, the frozen glass causes the beer to react in a different way and creates a completely different drinking experience. It ruins the beer. A chilled glass is acceptable but never a frozen glass. The glass should never be colder than the recommended consumption temperature of that particular beer.

Just ask for a room temp glass. It seems to me that a majority of people like frosted glasses, makes their mouth water a bit anticipating that big frosty first sip. My brother in law used to bring Bud cans to the house, put them in the freezer for a short time to reach that slushy stage. As he was about half way through his first one he would repeat the trip to the freezer, getting number 2 in perfect slushy condition. I would bet that if we had a referendum amongst ALL beer drinkers on frozen or not, frozen would win. A poll around here (BA) would likely be in the minority. Most craft-centric bars understand, but not all of them.

We have a restaurant here that does that as well. In my opinion it's overkill on any beer style but I've seen people ordering stouts from that Antarctic wasteland.

Burn that mother to the ground. How dare they serve you a beer in a less then perfect manner.

Any beer joint that serves in a frosted glass knows nothing about craft beer and hasn't bothered to educate themselves or staff

BUT after a run- golf- flag football-soccer-5k- etc I wouldn't mind a session ipa or pale ale in a frosted glass. don't tell anyone!

Frozen mugs/glasses are not for me. Especially if the place is noted for craft beer. They should know better.

    Cheers!

Ya know I spent 13 weeks in a hell hole that was Parris Island in the heart of the summer heat. I didn't miss my gf all that much didn't miss the sex, actually never thought much about it. But what drove me crazy in that blistering heat was the thought of an ice cold beer in a frozen Pilsner glass with the head slightly rolling over the top. I might have killed someone if they put a beer down and said fight for it. the milk was slightly cool, enough to keep it from spoiling, the fruit juice was always warm then water was room temp. I hate room temp.

I sense a jingle in the making. Craft and Crab beer has that frosty goblet taste! OP, I suppose you could ask the bartender nicely to microwave it for a few seconds.

Yeah, seems like show-boating to me. If you want the beer cold, then a simple chilled beer should be enough unless it's like 105 degrees F.

    Don't be a Diva.

    Don't serve frosted glasses.

*Guy on the side whispers in my ear*
    "What?! It's Goblets?!" *facepalm*

Burn me at the stake if you wish, but I love frosted glasses. I drink all my beers at home out of them and would love to have a frosted glass at a bar or restaurant. Granted, I drink my beer pretty slowly, so they tend to be warm by the time I finish them in this Phoenix heat anyway.

I love my water room temperature though. :astonished:

With you, I'll never say no to a frosted mug. It doesn't ruin the beer at all, I'd prefer my darker beers in room temp tulips though.

Frozen glasses should be mandatory in Arizona. Half-joking aside, I remember a spot (The Bambi in Tucson Arizona. My favorite dive) used to freeze their mugs for everything but they had a small problem. They didn't dry the mugs very well before they froze them so there would be a large ice chunk under the mug, so when you put your beer down it would "float" across the bar. It was sketchy

If you want to be nice about it just ask for your next beer in a non-frozen glass, if you prefer a non-frozen glass and you get multiple beers in a frozen glass then that's your own fault. The beer isn't 'ruined' if it's served in a frozen glass so telling that to the bartender is a sure way to come across as an ass.

Definitely agree. Where "ice cold" does help is with really shitty beer. The moment it gets any where near room temperature it is undrinkable. There is a direct correlation between quality and temperature IMO!
