@raynmoon: We brewed our first batch of Dark Star in the summer of 2014 and while I/Justin was aware of the non-barrel aged version of Fremont's Dark Star I don't believe Fremont sold beer in Colorado at the time. I thought a once a year, draft only release with no market overlap was not an issue.

Unless you have a federal trademark on a beer name, two breweries in different states are legally allowed to use the same name. I had my attorney research the name and Fremont does not have a federal trademark (because it belongs to another brewery).

According to the BA beer page for Fremont BBA Dark Star it was added in October 2014, which seems to be consistent with my recollection above (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20680/140119/). That means we named our Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star at almost the same time as Fremont, which means Fremont's probably wasn't "famous" at the time (because it was brand new).

Now that Fremont sells Dark Star bottles in Colorado and we sell Dark Star bottles in Colorado (taproom only, one day a year) I admit it's confusing. If it's too confusing maybe we'll change the name in the future. For now, it is what it is.

Hopefully that helps clarify the timeline and thought process. Cheers, and hopefully we'll see you in the taproom on Black Friday!

Such a great beer. Damn shame I won't get there until Saturday afternoon, which means all the variants will be gone, like they were last year. But hopefully the regular BA Dark Star will still be on tap.

Bigger question is, what do Garcia and Hunter think about all these Dark Star beers?

I guess non BA stouts could go here?: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/favorite-colorado-stouts-porters.351256/ 'tis the season to ramp that thread back up.

In terms of St Nicole variants, I assume those are probably draft only?

Big fan of the Double Barrel Baptist. Good strong whiskey flavor, with what tastes like a super amped version of Baptist as its base.
Baptista is also pretty good, the barrel is very light, but it has a nice cinnamon flavor.

There were plenty left @ 9PM. Someone said 2 bottle limit, but I didn't ask since 2 of each is all I wanted anyway. $16/ea

As far as I know it's only at the tap room on Walnut St. I couldn't say if they have any bottles left though. But they did have it on tap and it's freaking delicious.

If they bottle this I need it. Do they do Crowlers?

Side note but I think Oak Aged Yeti, while not a true BA beer, is one of the best values /unsung heroes of the Colorado scene.
