I think you just answered your own question if you are willing to do whatever is needed.

I've been to all night releases before, mainly Voodoo (for the first two barrel room collections) and two years of BASC, when that was still a thing. Those were fun becuase bottle sharing was allowed, though definitely exhaustung, I'll be down with a few friends, and my plan is to play it by ear. If people start lining up, I'll follow the crowd. I don't plan on driving 9 hours round trip to get shut out, so that's just my line of thinking. My guess is that people will indeed start lining up sometime shortly after the bottle share. This is strictly based on other similar releases I've been too where there is a limited beer that is of immense interest to folks (always see adjunct stouts). This being my first trip to OHB, I also don't know their rules for that sort of thing. I hope I'm completely wrong, but just reading this thread and seeing the amount of people from out of state coming in (myself included), lends me to the thought that a line may start earlier than expected.

I kind of wish @ohb or @priesing would respond to this. While I think its great people are willing to stand in line all night for beer, its just beer. It makes little to no sense to have people getting drunk outside of your brewery all hours of the night, but that's just me.

Has anyone ever camped out for an OHB release before and will they even allow it?

Just to be clear, I wasn't advocating for doing this. My friends and I have a hotel room and fully intend to stay there, and get in line early but not at midnight or whatever. I've just seen so many of these type releases in the five years I have been into craft, that if it does start early, I will join the crowd. Not my plan, but will fully adjust to whatever ends up happening. Looking forward to bringing down beers to share, and if anyone needs some of this weeks Veil cans, happy to stop by this evening and snag for those interested. Cheers!

^^^ This. Not to mention the liability and willingness of the Hickory PD.

The release poster for this release along with all of the previous releases states that the line starts at 7AM, and bottle sales start 9AM. This is to deter camping and I would imagine that drinking in line is frowned upon. Drink in line at your own risk of receiving a ticket.

From attending previous beer releases at Olde Hickory, in NC, and around the US, just stating the line 'starts' at 7a doesn't mean anything. When I showed up to the Calico release at 7:30a and there was 150+ people in line and asked "When did you guys show up?" people said they came into town the night before and got in line long before 7a. That's why I think clarification would be nice.

    What k
What kind of clarification are you looking for? The brewery said the line starts at 7. If you're worried that you won't get bottles if you show up 7, then get there at 5. If you're worried that 5 isn't early enough, then show up at 2 after the local bars close. If you want to guarantee that you will get bottles, then pitch a tent at 9. If OHB says that nobody can start the line before 7 then there will just be a mad dash of fat, neckbeards to start a line at 7. I've seen it happen before at HF.

I'll echo what @Nuwanda said about not drinking in line. I would NOT press your luck. I (and I'm sure the brewery and the rest of the locals) don't want this to turn into a thing with the Hickory PD. I neither believe that the Hickory PD is out to bust people, nor want to push my luck.

I'll more than likely leave the bottle share, see if there's an impromptu share happening somewhere or head to the Station. Might even get a couple hours of sleep.

I have been to all of OHB's bottle releases and folks have never camped out at the brewery all night. While this one has the potential to attract more people than the others, I really don't think it will be necessary. Drinking in line early in the morning has always been visible but never as widely present as at BASC or Fonta Flora releases.

The OHB guys might want to be proactive here and provide some guidance, much in the way that Foothills has negotiated terms with the police for their releases. (For those of you who are not from the area, the police in Winston-Salem have allowed bottle shares as long as they end with the break of dawn.)

I know this isn't a Fonta Flora release, but am I the only one concerned about snacks?

We camped out for Omega Point. Mainly because we drove 6 hours to get there and didn't have a hotel room. We were the only 3 people who camped out.

Nice. I'm already camped out. I'm absolutely stunned no one else is here. Somebody please bring me snacks.

Swinging by The Answer this evening to snag a couple crowlers for the share. Also have a couple of Veil cans from this weeks release if anyone was interested in exchanging for a couple Heist cans (never had their stuff, and wanted to tick a few). Cheers and look forward to meeting some new faces tomorrow!

I've got Black Agnes, NG Belgian Red, Pugachev's Cobra, and NG Champ du Blanc. I know people were saying to bring 2, but I have a wife that loves her craft.

We'll be arriving a little late as its a bit of a drive from Raleigh, but will be bringing some Heady Topper, Hill Farmstead and Jackie O's goodies, and a growler or two of my latest Strawberry Milkshake IPA. :grinning:
