Starting Monday morning off with a bang:



Gloomy looking morning, but needed rain is not forecast. Errands to run, but otherwise a lazy day on tap. Cheers y'all!

 

A snifter of warmth after a frosty but beautiful sunrise run, stop at the local liquor store and a dog walk. We're supposed to hit 60 degrees today, but I think that's still many hours away. I'll be heading indoors to get my arse moving on some Christmas decorating that has really fallen behind this year due to life!

Here are my missed NBS posts from yesterday, as I ended up going out later and never had a chance to write em down!

1.

Alpine Pure Hoppiness.

This is an unapologetic West Coast style IPA. Clear amber color, white two finger head that dissipates and leaves some lacing. Nose is like the inside of a christmas tree farm, super piney and resinous, this is what the hip kids call dank. Taste is similar, with a hint of some type of berry fruit, mildly sweet. Pretty thick mouthful for the style, very smooth. Simply fantastic beer.

BA generated score: 4.42 (EDIT: according to BA I have had this before, but I think I may have mistaken it for another alpine beer, because this one is memorable!)

Captain Lawrence Hudson Valley Harvest Sour Apricot

Pale clear amber color with an airy one finger head, which dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing. Nose is earthy and funky, with a hint of apricot, less so than I was expecting. Taste follows suit, with a little more apricot, quite tart and dry, mouthfeel is almost prickly. Definitely a softer sour, but I found the apricots to be a welcome part to this, making themselves known but not overpowering at all, as I am not a big fan of big fruit sours. Thanks Greg!

Found some Born Yesterday at my local watering hole, totally unexpected!

Don' know what it is, but there are just many beers from Belgium that use something Devilish in their name or label.

My latest find is this Formidabel from Broeder Jacob Brewery. A traditional beer style made by a relatively new brewery (as far as I know).

This blonde beer is not a Duvel imitation. It's a different style and has a nice (bit) complex taste. Strange label; this beer is even a bit sweet.

I was about to give up on finding my favorite Victory beer this year and there it was on the shelf this morning. It tastes pretty much on par with last year's batch in my opinion with it's crisp clean feel and spicy-earthy hop profile. I do believe I'll go back and buy another four pack!

 

Another back surgery scheduled for Dec 2?? I hate getting old. Shouldn't be too bad, though, as it is just a microdiscectomy...still makes me a grumpy(er) troll
