Today I bought two 12 packs of Immortal IPAs both dated 9/26/16. I opened one box and drank two bottles. From the aroma and taste I couldn't recognize I was drinking an Immortal IPA. The Immortal's distinctive aroma and taste just wasn't there. Anyone had the same issue? I emailed Elysian tonight. I wonder what kind of response I'll get.

Someone might be able to help you Tilda but many beer nerds who frequent BA don't buy Elysian anymore since they sold out.

Cant say Ive drank an Elysian beer in the past 3 years. Not anything to do with the buyout, but they literally dont make anything that stands out against the other options at the store.

not sure what beer is available near you Tilda, but I would drink any Fremont or Deschutes IPA over anything Elysian makes.

Many possibilities, bad batch, it's a couple months old/wasn't stored well at location, your tastes were off that night? Or maybe they've moved Immortal to the big AB brewery now and the recipe is a bit different due to the need to brew in larger batches. Any other changes you noticed? like the date location, packaging, etc that would indicate it was brewed in a different facility?

Or it could be the hop source changed, crops do vary year to year (or maybe they used up the staler ones from last year).

I wonder if they moved it to the large AB factory. A lot of 10 Barrel stuff got moved to the Fairfield, CA brewery...

Thanks for all the advice folks. My taste buds get happy and delighted when I splash them about with an Immortal IPA, and even more so when they are $14 for a 12 pack.
Elysian Brewing have a truly lovely customer service crew and my issues are fully resolved. Happy drinking.... and I did have an Inversion IPA on hand to cheer me up afterwards which fired me up for an epic win against my husband in chess.

I wouldn't know as I've been drinking so many awesome Cloudburst IPAs.

Looks like it's now being being brewed at the Budweiser brewery in Fort Collins, CO. I would think the PNW is still getting what is brewed in Seattle though. Unless now only the specialty beers are being brewed in Seattle. Don't care either way since I no longer buy Elysian.

No longer buy Elysian..its probably some A-B/INbev mass produced swill now aka Goose Island IPA.
Hey who would know the difference( AB/INBEV upper management).

I suspected this was potentially the case. It's likely that they brew it all in Fort Collins now and then brew other stuff at the Seattle brewery. This would allow them to brew more of the smaller releases since they'd free up a lot of space from not having to brew the mainstay IPA. Still possible that they brew in both (that would be smart for the locals) but I'd be surprised if The Immortal was brewed locally at all now.

I've seen Elsyian people proudly state that Spacedust is still brewed only in Seattle, but no mention of their other beers.

Had The Great Pumpkin this year, which has historically been my favorite pumpkin beer by a large margin and it didn't taste quite right. Didn't bother trying to figure out where it was brewed, but pumpkin beers were the last thing I was buying from Elysian. After ruining my favorite pumpkin beer and the disaster that was Pumpkin Fest this year, I'm not sure I'll be giving Elysian money ever again.

    AB InBev ruins everything.

What was the disaster of the pumpkin fest? I'm surprised they still put it on with Dick Cantwell no longer there. He was the big pumpkin beer fan. It was a fun event pre-buyout.

The lines got so long you couldn't drink any beer.

It was a single day this year, 3-10pm in a new location on the north parking lot of CenturyLink Field. Lots of rain, but everything was fine for the first hour. I used all of my tickets and went to get more. Then the lines started to get long, about 20-30 people deep at every single station (~36 of them). In past years some lines got big, but most lines stayed pretty short.

By the time I got my next beer, the lines had somehow doubled in size. It was difficult to tell where most of the lines started, since they overlapped with the lines for the tent across the parking lot. I looked around for the shortest line but every one was at least 50 people deep. Took an hour to get through the line, at which point we left because I'm not waiting an hour for a couple ounces of beer and we wouldn't have been able to use all of our tickets before they closed at 10pm.

The guy pouring beer said half the staff called in (and I believe Elysian's apology email said the same), but it appeared to me like they sold about 10x more tickets than they could handle and no amount of faster pouring was going to help that. If you were wondering why it didn't sell out this year, it's because of the increased capacity.

Sounds like most Portland events. Increase space for ticket holders, no increase in number of beer stations, get greedy and sell way too many tickets...gong show experience...
