Thought I'd see if anyone else has noticed some downward price shifting. In some cases recently I've seen formats go from bombers to 12 oz bottles or16oz cans, with a resulting significant drop in price by volume.

Today I saw a bigger drop...and picked up a four pack of World Wide Stout for $11. This beer was $9-10 for a single 12oz bottle last I knew. Now it's less than many other Dogfish beers. What happened?

Have you guys seen other examples?

Wherever you bought that did not price that beer correctly. consider yourself lucky.

I haven't seen any beer prices dropping, in fact I'm seeing a lot of six packs increasing from $9.99 to $10.99 in markets I track across the country.

I've just seen a drop in the price of Corona here, went down from 8.50€ to 7.50€ the sixer. Unfortunately it's still very pricey, and I'd rather have other transatlantic beers widely distributed here.

OP, it was maybe just a mistake though, don't be fooled. I don't think beer prices are overall going down any soon.

Another nod for only an uptick.

The 10.99-12.99 6er seems to be the most common along with the similarly priced 4 pack of 16oz cans. What I have seen really go up is brewery growlers of regular stuff. A few things like SN 12 packs like Celebration still a great deal

Suddenly Allagash White is a premium craft beer. $8 a pint is the norm in Boston. Fucking nuts.

I decided to definitively answer this question by looking at total craft beer 6 pack bottles across the entire domestic market. Looking at a few different cuts of data, there's a pretty consistent 2%(ish) increase in price year over year this year. Go figure, I would have expected closer to 10% based on my anecdotal observations.

For fun, comparing today versus 2 years ago, prices are only up 5%(ish) versus two years ago and 10%(ish) versus 3 years ago. Go figure.

I'd say it's more likely that the price went up to $11 (from your $9-10 as mentioned), and that whoever rang you up accidentally charged you the price of a single bottle for the entire 4-pack.

As for the rest of your post, hasn't that always been the case? Whenever I shop beers, the price/oz. is almost always cheaper in a 6-pack than a bomber.

Only going up ...... Not seen much go down except sculpin. It's now around $14 for old six packs, used to be $17-18 for old six packs. A good $10 six pack is a mythical thing today, a good $10 four pack is almost as hard to find as well. Soon I will be priced out of good beer and will go back to PBR and other similar things.

    Enjoy

Yeah, there's a definite trend away from bombers and towards 6- and 4-packs. I couldn't be happier. Even More Jesus in 4-pack pint cans is one of the best recent examples.

I'd hazard a guess that the hazy IPAs have led the way here. West Coast IPAs had been mostly in bombers (Hopocalypse, Citra DIPA, etc) until the haze craze came.

Someone mispriced it, the intended price was $11.00 a bottle. I've never seen a 4 pack of World wide stout just single bottles for sale.

As was previously mentioned, you were the beneficiary of a major pricing error.

Prices keep rising and it makes me appreciate the breweries who've kept their prices pretty stable. I've always loved Victory and I love them more now when sixers of their core beers are still $8.99 at my go-to place.

Here in NYC shit is expensive. As usual.

Seriously the cost of beer is wild these days. Only two or three years ago and the current pricing would have prompted many "gouging" threads

Now people are clambering over each other to throw crazy $ at beer

Another thing I have noticed is Breweries changing more for Growlers than 4pks.

A couple of weekends ago I went to a local brewery to buy some beer and a 4pk of 16oz cans cost $16 but a 32oz Growler cost $10.

Also noticed that my favorite bottle shop had a 4pk from the same brewery for sale for $13.99 but if you go to the brewery it cost $15.99 for the same 4pk.

Breweries frequently charge equal or more than local retail shops. Beer tourism = greater profit margin.

I have seen pricing hold the same for the most part. There are sales out there so yes for some beers there is a price reduction based on the sale. But beyond this I don't see any reduction as a whole nor any major increase.

This is a good point. They also can't undercut their business partners, providing no incentive to distribute their beers.

The $10.99 sticker was on the carton of the four pack. Do they really charge $40 a 4 pack? I've seen the singles priced that high, but this was definitely a 4 pack. Burton Baton was $5 more!
