Happy Thanksgiving! Take a moment to give thanks and grab
a beer. I'm drinking Sierra Nevada Coffee Stout this morning.
    What's in your glass today?

Good morning BA! Have a great Thanksgiving holiday with your families. Looking forward to seeing all of your special bottles through the day. My family is going to a buffet in the afternoon for our family get together. Even though my mom is finally back home from working out of state for a few years, no one wants to cook haha. All is fine with me, I haven't seen them any of them in months.

Starting off my T-day beers with a couple cellar pulls, and a DIPA:

This is a great DIPA. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, berries, lemon/orange zest, sage, spruce, pepper, and pine; with some toasted biscuit/light caramel malts; and herbal, floral, grassy earthiness from sage/hops. Moderate pine/citrus peel/peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus body; sticky/resinous with moderate creamy/grainy Munich malt in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness; minimal hop/spice astringency. You need to like sprucy/piney IPAs for this one, but it also has a nice citrus forward hop profile; and some softer tropical/stone fruit notes(probably the house yeast). All really well put together. Nicely balanced, and not too sweet on malts. Definitely will grab again.

1 year old bottle, this has definitely improved! Flavors of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, and toasted oak; with some underlying raisin, prune, plum, fig, and berry fruit; touch of licorice. Light roasty bitterness and spicy bourbon/oak on the finish. Full bodied with an great creamy/silky mouthfeel; bit of slick/syrupy character and a touch of chalky roast. Minimal dryness. Warming, but not boozy finish. Wow, I am definitely looking forward to the 17% 2017 batch now. This showcases bourbon barrel flavor absolutely amazingly. Dragon's Milk has always been about balance between the stout and the barrel(as intended by the brewers); but this amps all of that up to a whole other level. Pretty much a perfect balance between bourbon, oak, and stout flavors; but far more rich and complex than the base beer. Definitely going stock up on the next batch to age. 1 year has done great things.

Wow, 3 years in my walk-in closet "cellar". This is tasting insane. Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, molasses, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, raisin, fig, cherry, date, leather, tobacco, licorice, and light coconut. Good amount of bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish, balances the residual sweetness absolutely perfectly. Insane balance between the malt, dark fruits, and bourbon barrel flavors. Big silky and slick full body feel. Some light dryness from spicy bourbon/oak presence. Very smooth sipper for 14.9%, warming but not boozy finish. Extremely deep and roasty on malt character, but has an equally enormous amount of barrel presence in pretty much perfect balance. Wish they would do the 4 pack format again instead of the 500 ml.

    Cheers

Forgot how much I love this band. Their earlier albums were a mix of Prog and Melodeath, but the newest album had a lot more Doom elements; but still was great IMO. They got a new lead vocalist, and I think that had a bit to do with it.

Still shaping up to be one of my top Prog albums this year.

    Happy Thanksgiving BA's!

Up early and made myself a tasty mushroom, smoked cheese and spinach omelet for breakfast.....oh yeah, and breakfast beer....go BIG or go home!

My daughter arrived last evening from Columbus, and she is still asleep in my guest room.....we went to a couple of places last night, including new'ish Akron brewery R. Shea Brewing, and to a spot in downtown called Barley House where there was live music and a Rhinegeist tap takeover with $4 pints and I got a cool can glass as well!

Pretty awesome when your grown children bring you beers for the holidays....in this case a tasty WW sour from the Funkatorium visit she did in Asheville last month....gotta love that!

Cheers all - enjoy your holiday!!

A casserole and a pie to finish, then I drive us to Huntington for dinner with siblings and kids. Time for a beer before the parades start:

Good morning all, and Happy Thanksgiving! Got up around 5:30 after a restless night and decided to give my garage a much-needed cleaning before heading over to the in-laws'. Taking a break, and enjoying this beautiful creation. Haven't had this one in over a year, and I must say, it's been far too long! Cheers!

Wow, that was a fun beer to drink. Very complex and with flavors that you don't encounter very often. Also it's interesting to see quite a discrepancy between the scores that BAs and the Bros have given to this beer. While the public thinks this is an Outstanding beer, the Bros think it's merely Good. I wonder whether they got a bad batch or something? I thought it was absolutely delightful.
