Since I don't have any inside affiliation, I am just an experienced beer consumer, I just have outside fan opinions, but I think that Goose Island should temporarily scrap the bcbs program and figure out the details. Maybe blend the good current barrels with the next batches after a brief hiatus. Or do something better with them. It would make them a lot of money in the future, not to mention the hype around its return. Any opinions or suggestions? Inside or input?

Just make the regular beer and stop creating variants.

Based on the turnout Friday morning, I think they're doing just fine.

I want them to go back to 12 oz bottles, and I want to see a maple variant.

Maybe they should ask Lagunitas how they are able to make, and subsequently sell, High Westified for $11-13 a six pack?

Given that they usually sell out within hours of going on sale (at least where I'm from), they seem to be doing perfectly fine from a business/customer satisfaction perspective.

That said, I would be over the moon if they moved back to 12 ounce bottles and stuck to regular, barleywine, coffee, and vanilla. And maybe consult Lagunitas on cost control, too.

I think Lagunitas sources most of their hops, forgot exactly what I read about that. But yeah if you can produce your own ingredients you can profit from both ends and keep the price down.

GI should stop…brewing.. BCBS? :astonished::astonished::astonished: That's like saying Ferrari should also stop making super cars and focus more on the keychains and hats.

I would cut back on the variants, make them a bit more special. That said I'd like to see only coffee and Bcbs , as a regular offering, then every few years or so pull one out of the closet.

It's because Lagunitas is okay with making a lower profit margin.

My only wish is that they brought back 12oz bottles.

I wish they could find a way to price the beer somewhere near the demand. I get that it's a seasonal release so it doesn't have to stay one shelves year-round. But it shouldn't be sold out immediately. If they couldn't keep Sofie on the shelves they'd brew more and/or raise the price.

And yes, I miss being able to pick up a case or two of the 12oz bottles. Was nice to be able to crack one on a Tuesday and not feel like I need to wait for a special occasion.

Scrap BCBS? Are you insane? The only problem with BCBS is that there isn't enough of it for everyone to hoard. You must be black-out drunk.

I agree that 12oz would be great as it would be much more appropriate size given the ABV, and would reach more consumers since there would be more bottles. The suggestion that BCBS take a sabbatical is an over-reaction, though there may be a further dip in availability next year depending on when they got/get the bad barrels replaced. When they get past this, it would be great if they could ramp up production and build a larger fan base. Brewers who have limited production cult beers are missing out on potential profits, though I do understand the costs and risks involved.

some of the above was laughable. obviously most of us like the 12oz suggestion. beyond that, some sensible things GI could do is trim their barrel program down to a size that is more in-line with availability of the quality of barrels they need/want & can better control.

2nd they could abandon the turn it into a: Best Buy, Walmart, Doorbusters shit-show they've insisted on making their Black Friday release events. as much pressure as it puts on "us" - it also puts pressure on the industry dealing with it. & while many will say, having a hard target release date in no way shape or form exacerbated the contamination issues of 2015, no-one can prove that had GI not been under the gun to meet the target date, they would not have had more time to discover what was transpiring OR been able to better cull suspect barrels prior to bottling/releasing. just release the beer in each market as it's ready, you know, like most ordinary beers. it'll still sell out rapidly.
